Club L London reports soaring profits and 48% turnover growth in a year of rapid international expansion.
Womenswear brand Club L London has experienced a period of rapid expansion, reflected in its recently released 2024/25 results. For the 12 months ending in March this year, the company reported a substantial 48% increase in turnover, rising from £44.4 million to £65.9 million. This growth trajectory was accompanied by a significant jump in profit before tax (PBT), which soared by 51%.
The comprehensive report reveals strong gains across all financial metrics. Gross profit increased by 62%, reaching £37.8 million from £23.4 million in the previous period. The aforementioned profit before tax reached £14 million, a notable rise from just under £3.1 million a year earlier. This strong performance led to improved profitability margins, which increased significantly from 6.9% to 21.1%. Furthermore, net assets grew from £9.1 million to £16.6 million, demonstrating a robust financial position and capacity for continued investment in growth initiatives. Net profit for the year also saw substantial growth, rising to £10.38 million from £2.57 million.
The company attributed its stellar performance primarily to strategic expansion into international markets combined with targeted investments in infrastructure and technology. Marketing chief Dan Sorensen stated that previous infrastructural investments enabled the company to "scale profitably both domestically and internationally giving us an opportunity to serve our customers better across all borders.”
The international expansion yielded remarkable results across several key regions. The US market demonstrated strong growth with a 90% increase year-on-year, while Australia experienced an 83% surge. Growth in the Middle East was particularly exceptional, recording a 417% increase. Europe also contributed significantly, achieving triple-digit growth supported by an expanding customer base and carefully executed localization strategies across Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia.
To facilitate international sales and enhance the customer experience, Club L London focused heavily on localization. This included launching dedicated, localized webstores with end-to-end translation and cultural adaptations to ensure a seamless and locally relevant shopping experience for customers in key markets.
A crucial infrastructural development was the opening of a dedicated US 3PL facility. This strategic move was vital for improving delivery times within the US market, which is often challenging for European businesses to penetrate effectively. The facility also strengthened overall logistics capacity and enhanced the overall customer experience for North American customers.
The company maintained its momentum through key acquisitions and platform launches during and after the reporting period. Just before the latest financial year concluded, Club L London acquired Lavish Alice for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, uniting two "leading, legacy brands." Following this, in July, a localized German website was launched, and in September, the brand expanded its presence by launching on the prominent Middle Eastern e-commerce platform Ounass.
