Combat sports are the new runway as fashion fuses with fighting
The long-standing relationship between sport and fashion is experiencing an exciting evolution, with boxing and other martial arts now increasingly taking centre stage in high-profile collaborations. While traditionally tennis, athletics, motorsports, and football stars have dominated collection link-ups, the current spotlight shines brightly on combat sports. This past weekend offered prime examples, with Montirex making its US debut public through a partnership with Leon Edwards for his UFC comeback fight, while Bluestar Alliance significantly advanced its new sports strategy via its Palm Angels label in conjunction with the highly anticipated Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. boxing match.
Bluestar Alliance's strategic foray into sports fashion was particularly evident with the Conor Benn fight. Benn emerged victorious wearing a bespoke Palm Angels kit, marking the second successful project in Bluestar’s burgeoning sports strategy. This collaboration saw Palm Angels debut a limited-edition capsule collection alongside a custom fight kit for the British boxer. Partnering with Everlast, the initiative was hailed by Bluestar Alliance as a testament to its expanding strategy to champion talent, drive sport-driven storytelling, and create culturally resonant brand moments. Bluestar asserted its role in defining the next wave of fashion-sport collaborations, highlighting how Conor Benn’s bespoke Palm Angels x Everlast fight kit seamlessly merged Everlast’s performance heritage with Palm Angels’ contemporary luxury aesthetic, effectively transforming the ring walk into a runway while maintaining fidelity to the sport's rich history.
The design philosophy behind Benn’s fight kit reimagined classic fight gear as modern armour, paying homage to the gladiatorial spirit inherent in boxing. Built around core themes of discipline, tension, and controlled intensity, the kit eloquently reflected the rigorous emotional and physical preparation required before battle, thereby elevating the boxing ring into a contemporary arena for both sport and style. Complementing this bespoke kit, a limited-edition capsule collection was also released. This collection featured two T-shirts, a hoodie, and exclusive boxing gloves, all directly inspired by the kit Benn wore. The capsule collection celebrated boxing heritage, reinterpreted through Palm Angels’ distinctive luxury streetwear lens, offering fans a piece of this unique fusion.
This success with Conor Benn follows another significant win for a Bluestar Alliance brand and Everlast custom kit. Last September, Terence Crawford famously beat Canelo Alvarez while wearing an Off-White x Everlast ensemble. Bluestar highlighted that, collectively, these pivotal moments have significantly expanded global attention for all three participating brands—Palm Angels, Off-White, and Everlast. More broadly, these collaborations have powerfully underscored fashion’s capacity to penetrate unexpected arenas and captivate entirely new audiences, demonstrating its growing influence beyond traditional boundaries.
Meanwhile, UK-based apparel brand Montirex utilized the high-visibility platform of the UFC to announce its much-anticipated debut in the US market. The brand collaborated with JD Sports in New York, strategically positioning its ambassador, Leon Edwards, at the epicentre of his comeback bout at the iconic Madison Square Garden. This move not only showcased Montirex to a vast American audience but also solidified the trend of combat sports becoming a powerful vehicle for fashion brands seeking global exposure and new consumer engagement.
