Constança Entrudo Crowned Fashion Personality of the Year After 90s Rave Inspired Collection
Lisbon's fashion scene celebrated a significant triumph on Sunday night, September 28, as designer Constança Entrudo was honored with the Fashion Personality of the Year award at SIC’s 29th Globos de Ouro (Golden Globes) Gala. The prestigious event, held at the iconic Coliseu dos Recreios, saw Entrudo take home the coveted trophy just a day after unveiling her exciting Paraíso x Constança Entrudo collaboration. This limited-edition drop, which launched at Lux Frágil nightclub, vividly captured the essence of 1990s rave culture, setting the stage for her subsequent win.
Known for her innovative approach to sustainability and material experimentation, Constança Entrudo, the creative director of her eponymous brand, has carved a distinct niche in the fashion world. Her work in textile research and innovation has garnered widespread recognition. A distinguished alumna of Central Saint Martins in London, Entrudo boasts an impressive resume of collaborations with esteemed fashion houses, including the French powerhouse Balmain, the Belgian-British talent Peter Pilotto, and the acclaimed Portuguese-British label Marques’Almeida (M’A).
Upon accepting her award onstage, Entrudo graciously reflected on her formative years in the fashion industry. She specifically paid tribute to her mentors, Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida of M’A, acknowledging their foundational influence. Marques and Almeida were also among the esteemed nominees in the category, alongside Inês Amorim and Reid Baker of Ernest W. Baker, Joana Duarte of Béhen, and Valentim Quaresma, highlighting the strong competition within the Portuguese fashion landscape.
Her distinctive design philosophy and commitment to challenging conventional textile manufacturing processes were further highlighted by ModaLisboa, an organization Entrudo also acknowledged on social media. As ModaLisboa notes on its website, Entrudo "develops unique pieces and sustainable fabrics" by creating "with absolute freedom from pre-existing design structures, using trial-and-error methods to arrive at the exclusive materials that distinguish the brand." This innovative spirit will be on full display soon, as her brand is set to present its latest collection at Castle HI HI HI, a newly opened shop and creative studio located at 3 Largo de Santa Luzia in Lisbon, coinciding with the upcoming edition of Lisbon Fashion Week.
With a recent New York Fashion Week debut in 2024 already under her belt, Entrudo continues to expand her influence by crafting immersive fashion narratives. "I enjoy creating worlds," she articulated during her acceptance speech, emphasizing her belief that "Each project has its own story that leads me to believe in what may at first seem impossible — and that’s what motivates and guides my work.” She concluded her heartfelt address by extending profound gratitude to her family and closest supporters, affirming, “Without them, I wouldn’t be here.”
