Cotswolds Designer Outlet a runaway success exceeding expectations with major expansion planned

The Cotswolds Designer Outlet has experienced a remarkably strong 10-week summer debut, positioning itself as the UK’s only major new retail opening for 2025 and quickly becoming a "runaway success," according to its operator, Multi Realm. This initial trading period has seen the new development significantly exceed all initial expectations, demonstrating robust appeal and strong performance.

Further enhancing its appeal, the outlet recently welcomed two new prominent brands to its lineup: the make-up and beauty retailer Cosmetics Company Store and the jewellery specialist Chapelle. These strategic additions have contributed to sales figures that are "significantly exceeding trading expectations." Christine Grace, Leasing Director at Multi Realm, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "These new additions to the line-up have been so well received and given the scheme a late summer boost which is perfect timing for the imminent gift-giving season." She added that the centre now has just one remaining unit to fill, with advanced discussions already underway with preferred brands, a clear indication of its successful launch and strong market demand.

Looking ahead, the Cotswolds Designer Outlet is already preparing for significant expansion. With existing planning consent in place, discussions have begun for a 50,000 sq ft second phase, which is slated to introduce an additional 20 brands to the development. Complementing this growth, planning permission was also recently secured for the provision and relocation of over 600 car parking spaces, ensuring ample facilities to accommodate the anticipated increase in visitors.

Adrian Field, the Centre Manager, highlighted the powerful endorsement of physical retailing observed at the outlet. "We have witnessed a very strong endorsement of physical retailing with the centre already trading well above our business plan expectations," Field noted. He pointed to impressive trading densities, which have led many retailers to require increased stock packages, more frequent deliveries, and additional staff recruitment to meet consumer demand. Field also revealed that the scheme was deliberately launched with a "preview mentality," acknowledging it wouldn't be a fully finished article from day one. Despite this, most brands considerably exceeded their sales targets over the summer, underscoring the immediate success and strong consumer response.

The impressive debut of the Cotswolds Designer Outlet, characterized by overwhelming sales, rapid brand occupancy, and clear plans for future expansion, firmly establishes it as a significant and thriving new retail hub. Its ability to surpass ambitious targets and attract new businesses suggests a very promising future for this key UK retail development.
