Digital resale fashion platform Depop has unveiled "Outfits," an innovative new in-app tool designed to significantly enhance the user experience. This feature empowers users to effortlessly style, plan, and experiment with their personal looks, leveraging the vast inventory available directly from the marketplace. Depop has heralded this launch as "among the first of its kind in the resale space" and a "pivotal step in its broader strategy to elevate [its] ‘People-Powered Experience’."

The introduction of Outfits aims to foster engagement far beyond traditional buying and selling. By providing a platform for inspiration, creativity, and connection, Depop intends to transform into a daily destination for its community. This fully shoppable styling and collaging tool offers users a moodboard-style experience, allowing them to curate looks directly from any item listing and, crucially, purchase their entire assembled outfit.

Sonia Biddle, Depop’s Chief Product Officer, highlighted the tool’s transformative potential. “From outfit planning and style exploration to creating content for social sharing, Outfits puts the power of self-expression in the hands of our users — no pins, no tabs, just style made simple,” she stated. Biddle further emphasized that Outfits is more than just a functional tool; it represents “a foundational step in Depop’s long-term strategy to create a more socially driven experience,” supporting its differentiation in the resale market by leaning into the unique aspects of its community: creative styling, fashion exploration, and culture-driven commerce.

The Outfits tool incorporates several key features to ensure a seamless and intuitive styling process. Users can easily browse Depop listings, select desired items, and begin building their outfits by simply clicking a scissor icon. Integrated technology automatically removes the background of each selected item, and these pieces are then saved in ‘Likes & Saves,’ where they can be edited, added to, or shopped at a later time. All items featured within the Outfits are fully shoppable, with the added convenience of suggestions for similar items if an original selection happens to sell out. Furthermore, users have the ability to share static images of their created Outfits across popular social platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, extending their styling influence.

Following its initial introduction on September 24th, Depop has confirmed plans to roll out new functionalities and features for Outfits over the coming months. This continuous development underscores the platform’s commitment to expanding the possibilities within social commerce and further enriching the creative potential available to its vibrant community.
