Design Eyewear Group Expands Portfolio and Enters Children's Market with KNCO Acquisition

Design Eyewear Group (DEG) has announced a significant expansion of its brand portfolio and a strategic foray into the children's eyewear market through the acquisition of six distinct eyewear brands from the French company KNCO. This move marks a pivotal moment for DEG, reinforcing its position within the European eyewear landscape and opening new avenues for growth in a specialized segment.

The comprehensive deal includes a diverse range of brands, catering to both adult and juvenile demographics. Specifically, the acquisition brings two proprietary adult brands, Francois Pinton and Karavan, into the DEG family. Furthermore, it introduces four children's eyewear brands: the proprietary lines Karavan Kids and Kaliboo, alongside the highly recognized licensed children’s brands Jacadi and Catimini. These additions substantially broaden DEG's offering and appeal across different market segments.

This strategic acquisition significantly strengthens Design Eyewear Group’s foothold in France, which stands as one of Europe’s most vital and dynamic eyewear markets. By integrating these well-established brands and their associated assets, DEG is not only consolidating its presence in a key region but also laying the groundwork for further expansion into other critical international markets, capitalizing on the newly acquired portfolio's appeal and distribution channels.

A crucial aspect of this acquisition is Design Eyewear Group’s deliberate entry into the children’s eyewear segment. This market presents unique demands, prioritizing durability, safety, and comfort, alongside a growing emphasis on contemporary style. KNCO's proven expertise and established market presence with brands like Karavan Kids, Kaliboo, Jacadi, and Catimini are invaluable assets, providing DEG with an immediate and robust foundation to meet these specific market needs and successfully navigate this specialized category.

"This is another important step in our journey," stated Lars Flyvholm, CEO of Design Eyewear Group. He elaborated on the company’s recent trajectory, noting that this acquisition follows closely on the heels of the June acquisition of Menrad and successful licensing agreements with prestigious brands such as Jaguar, Joop!, Bogner, and Morgan. Flyvholm emphasized that these new additions provide an even broader foundation for sustained growth, facilitating expansion not only geographically but also into new segments like children’s eyewear, where DEG sees strong potential. He further highlighted that the KNCO brands are a natural fit for DEG's portfolio, complementing existing strengths in design, craftsmanship, and international distribution networks.

As part of the integration, approximately 15 skilled KNCO employees will transition to Design Eyewear Group. This includes four designers and product managers who will continue their crucial work in developing and innovating the acquired brands, ensuring continuity and creative momentum. Additionally, experienced sales and customer service teams, possessing deep knowledge of the existing portfolio and client relationships, will join DEG, ensuring a seamless transition and continued excellence in market engagement and client support.
