Dillard's Reports Solid Sales Growth Driven by Apparel and Accessories

Dillard's, the prominent American retailer based in Little Rock, Arkansas, announced a positive financial update on Thursday, reporting a 3 percent uptick in net sales for its third quarter. The company observed robust growth across its retail sales for the three months ending November 1, which also rose by 3 percent. Furthermore, sales in comparable stores demonstrated an identical 3 percent increase during the same period, signaling consistent performance across its existing footprint. Key drivers for this growth included strong sales logged in women's apparel, accessories, and lingerie.

Delving deeper into category performance, Dillard's highlighted several areas of significant strength. Sales in ladies’ accessories and lingerie, juniors’ and children’s apparel, and ladies’ apparel all experienced substantial increases during the quarter. The footwear division saw a moderate rise in sales, while home and furniture, men’s apparel and accessories, and cosmetics reported slight increases, contributing to the overall positive sales trajectory.

The favorable sales performance translated into a healthy boost in net income for the 13-week period. Dillard's reported net income climbing to $129.8 million, or $8.31 per share, marking an improvement over the $124.6 million, or $7.73 per share, recorded in the prior-year period. This increment reflects the company's continued ability to enhance profitability alongside sales growth.

In terms of its retail footprint, Dillard's also announced an upcoming adjustment to its physical operations. The company plans to close its store located at The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano, Texas, with the shuttering expected to occur in January. Currently, Dillard's operates a substantial network of 272 stores, which includes 28 dedicated clearance centers, spanning across 30 states, in addition to its robust online store presence.
