Dior Celebrates a Decade of Artistry with Monumental Lady Dior Retrospective Book

Dior is set to release a monumental retrospective book, a fitting tribute to the iconic Lady Dior handbag and a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the groundbreaking Dior Lady Art project. This exquisite volume commemorates a decade of artistic innovation, where the classic accessory has been transformed into a canvas for global creativity, further solidifying its status as a masterpiece of both fashion and fine art.

The Lady Dior handbag itself boasts a rich heritage, having been originally introduced in 1995. It was famously named in honor of Lady Diana, Princess of Wales, who quickly became an ardent admirer and unofficial ambassador for the bag. Since its inception, the Lady Dior has epitomized the timeless elegance and refined sophistication that are hallmarks of the Dior universe, becoming an enduring symbol of the house's luxurious aesthetic.

Launched in 2016, the Dior Lady Art project was conceived as an ambitious initiative, inviting renowned artists from across the globe to reimagine the Lady Dior through their unique artistic lenses. This innovative endeavor challenges creators to push boundaries, resulting in interpretations that range from profound conceptual reworkings to daring material experiments, consistently blurring the lines between high fashion and contemporary art. To date, an impressive 99 artists have contributed their distinct visions, transforming the bag into a diverse collection of portable artworks.

The project has attracted an international roster of highly acclaimed creators, each bringing their signature style to the beloved accessory. Notable artists who have participated include figures such as Judy Chicago, Jeffrey Gibson, Gilbert & George, Zhang Huan, Eva Jospin, Marc Quinn, Faith Ringgold, Raqib Shaw, Mickalene Thomas, and Joana Vasconcelos, among many others, underscoring the project's global reach and artistic credibility.

The new commemorative volume, published by the prestigious Rizzoli, delves deep into this artistic journey. It features insightful texts penned by esteemed contributors Hervé Mikaeloff, Jérôme Hanover, and Anne Malherbe, complemented by the evocative photography of Adrien Dirand. Presented in a generous 25.5 x 29.5 cm format and spanning an impressive 452 pages, the book meticulously captures over 270 original creations. Each piece has been specially staged and photographed to not only highlight the extraordinary craftsmanship and meticulous detail of Dior’s revered ateliers but also to showcase the diverse artistic languages and innovative spirits of its celebrated collaborators.

Fashion enthusiasts and art collectors worldwide can anticipate the release of this highly awaited publication. It will first be available in France on October 29, 2025, with a global release scheduled for February 17, 2026. This captivating celebration of art, fashion, and craftsmanship will retail for $95, offering an unparalleled glimpse into a decade of artistic reinvention for one of the world's most iconic handbags.
