Dior unveils its sculptural "House of Dreams" flagship in Beijing blending high fashion, art, and fine dining.
Dior has inaugurated its latest flagship concept, House of Dior Beijing, located in the prominent Sanlitun district, known as the Chinese capital's hub for luxury and culture. This five-story structure stands as a path-breaking new retail space, offering the initial designs by creative director Jonathan Anderson. The project marks the third collaboration between Dior and Pritzker Prize-winning French architect Christian de Portzamparc, following successful store launches in Seoul in 2015 and Geneva in 2024.
The innovative sculptural building features a distinctive façade inspired by the brand’s heritage. The exterior is adorned with petal-shaped shells that evoke the movement of the toiles (muslin fabric) used by Monsieur Dior when conceptualizing the New Look. The vertical fronts are punctuated with handcrafted golden glass tiles, a color specifically chosen for its significance in China, where it is traditionally reserved for royalty. This design harmoniously blends traditional symbolism with contemporary architectural aesthetics.
Inside, the House of Dior Beijing offers a range of luxurious experiences beyond retail. The space includes VIP lounges and features the Monsieur Dior restaurant, overseen by Anne-Sophie Pic, recognized as the world's most Michelin-starred female chef. The flagship is designed to be a house of dreams, culminating in a private terrace on the top floor that offers panoramic views of the city.
The store's design meticulously incorporates elements celebrating the maison's heritage and savoir-faire. The top floor features a gallery echoing the spirit of La Galerie Dior at the Paris flagship on 30 Montaigne, complete with a monumental spiral staircase and an installation created by OMA, filled with white toiles. On the ground floor, window displays transform suitcases into charming scenographies for dream trips to Paris. The iconic Lady Dior bag is showcased in multiple artistic versions, and Bobby, Monsieur Dior’s beloved dog, appears in unprecedented proportions.
Throughout the store, the décor utilizes noble materials and iconic house codes. Cabochon parquet flooring, a reinterpreted Cannage pattern, and refined touches of gold punctuate the space. The design is complemented by cutting-edge furniture and black-and-white photography, alongside works of art by figures such as Wang Xiyao, Hong Hao, Franck Evennou, and Gio Ponti. This curated selection echoes Monsieur Dior's history before fashion, when he operated an art gallery in 1920s Paris.
The flagship presents the full world of Dior, encompassing womenswear, accessories, shoes, fragrances from La Collection Privée, jewelry, timepieces, Dior Maison objects, and menswear. Among these, a deep red ball gown stands alone as a central feature, adorning the decor with what Christian Dior described as the “color of life.” The store, from its architectural details to its comprehensive offerings, is positioned as a complete destination designed to immerse visitors in the full scope of the brand.
