Dior's Jonathan Anderson Sets Sail for Los Angeles Cruise Show
Jonathan Anderson has announced that Los Angeles will serve as the esteemed venue for his inaugural cruise show for the house of Dior. The highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place in LA on May 13, a date confirmed by the luxury fashion house to FashionNetwork.com on Monday. While the city and date are set, the specific location within Los Angeles where the show will unfold remains a closely guarded secret, yet to be publicly unveiled.
This strategic decision to host a major show in Los Angeles follows closely on the heels of Dior's significant expansion in the city, marked by the recent grand opening of a prominent new flagship store on Rodeo Drive. This iconic thoroughfare, recognized as California's premier luxury shopping destination, now boasts Dior's latest retail presence. The flagship's exquisite design is credited to American architect Peter Marino, a leading figure in creating prestigious boutiques for LVMH, the formidable French luxury conglomerate that owns Dior, among other illustrious brands.
Dior's Los Angeles show is part of a broader trend seeing major French luxury brands converge on the American market. It will precede by just one week another significant event: Louis Vuitton's next cruise show, also an LVMH brand, slated for May 20 in New York. Furthermore, New York will host Chanel's upcoming Métiers d’Art show on December 2. This collective movement by the triumvirate of France's three largest runway brands towards the United States for their global shows signals a renewed confidence from French executives in the vitality of the American market and its discerning consumers of high-quality luxury products.
The choice of California for a cruise collection is not unprecedented within Dior's recent history. Maria Grazia Chiuri, Jonathan Anderson's predecessor in Dior womenswear, notably selected California for her debut cruise show in 2017, presenting a Western-inspired collection in a picturesque ranch-style setting located in Calabasas, a hilly district north of Los Angeles. Similarly, Kim Jones, Anderson's predecessor in Dior menswear, staged a resort collection in Venice Beach in 2023. That collection, characteristic of many of Jones’ projects, featured a notable collaboration, in this instance with talent Eli Russell Linnetz.
Jonathan Anderson, a Northern Irish designer, was appointed creative director of Dior in March 2025, taking on the monumental task of overseeing womenswear, menswear, and couture divisions. This appointment marks a significant moment for the house, as Anderson becomes the first designer since its esteemed founder, Christian Dior himself, to be entrusted with the creative direction of all three of these prestigious divisions simultaneously, underscoring the profound scope of his role and vision for the brand.
