Doja Cat Bites Back as M.A.C Cosmetics' Bold New Global Ambassador

M.A.C Cosmetics has officially announced the appointment of Grammy-winning artist Doja Cat as its newest global ambassador. This high-profile partnership will see Doja Cat starring in a series of campaigns for the U.S. beauty giant, kicking off with a memorable appearance at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. Her debut as an ambassador immediately captured headlines, marked by a daring red carpet stunt that set social media abuzz.

At the VMAs, Doja Cat made a striking impression, sporting a matching red lip before astonishing onlookers by seemingly taking a bite out of a M.A.C lipstick in her chosen shade, Lady Danger. This viral moment, however, was later revealed to be an edible chocolate replica, masterfully crafted by renowned pastry chef Amaury Guichon. Beyond this playful introduction, Doja Cat went on to open the VMAs with a debut performance of "Jealous Type" and later secured the 2025 Best K-Pop VMA for "Born Again," her collaboration with Lisa and Raye.

Expressing her excitement about the new role, Doja Cat shared her deep-rooted connection to the brand. "I've been a M.A.C girl forever, and now I get to take that love to the global stage," she stated. She further elaborated on her philosophy: "Makeup is my paint, my armor, my way of creating characters – and M.A.C has always stood for that kind of artistry and freedom. We're going to push it even further and make people see beauty in a whole new way." Her words underscore a commitment to innovative self-expression through cosmetics.

The Estée Lauder-owned company highlighted that Doja's VMA appearance offered a glimpse into the "bold artistry" expected from the collaboration. Nicola Formichetti, M.A.C's global creative director, who assumed his role earlier this year, praised the artist's unique appeal. "Doja has a fearless energy that's so authentically M.A.C," Formichetti commented. "She uses makeup as a tool for creativity, pushing the boundaries of expression. We're thrilled to join forces with her to redefine and disrupt the beauty space."

This significant appointment comes at a crucial time for M.A.C's New York-based parent company, Estée Lauder, which continues to navigate persistent market weaknesses. The beauty conglomerate has faced challenges in the U.S. and China markets, compounded by tariff uncertainty. Last month, Estée Lauder projected annual profit below Wall Street estimates, with full-year adjusted earnings per share anticipated to be in the range of $1.90 to $2.10, falling short of analysts' estimates of $2.21 per share, according to data compiled by LSEG.
