Supima, the esteemed non-profit luxury brand dedicated to championing American-grown Pima cotton, has proudly announced Varvara 'Bobby' Diakonenkova of Drexel University as the triumphant winner of its prestigious 2025 Supima Design Competition.

This year marked a significant evolution for Supima, as it innovatively merged its annual Supima Design Competition (SDC) and the Supima Design Lab (SDL) into a singular, grand evening event. Held on November 5 at the stylish Lavan Studios in New York City, the momentous occasion was expertly hosted by the renowned photographer and fashion icon, Nigel Barker, heralding a new era for the organization's commitment to design excellence.

Attendees were treated to dynamic presentation-style showcases featuring the exceptional work of the 2025 Supima Design Competition finalists, alongside collections from the talented Festival d’Hyères finalists and several leading international designers. A unifying element across all presentations was the innovative and sophisticated use of Supima’s signature American-grown Pima cotton, highlighting its versatility and luxurious quality.

The celebratory night reached its pinnacle with the announcement of Diakonenkova’s victory. Her exquisite eveningwear capsule collection captivated the judges, earning recognition for its impeccable craftsmanship, remarkable originality, and a truly forward-thinking interpretation of Supima cotton's potential within high fashion.

The competition also showcased the immense talent of other finalists who demonstrated outstanding creativity and skill. These included Caroline Hill from Kent State University, Emma Gonzalez Pini representing Parsons School of Design, Griselda Peña Candelario of Pratt Institute, and Isabel Weiss from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, each contributing unique visions to the competition.

An distinguished panel of industry luminaries meticulously evaluated the finalists' groundbreaking work. The esteemed judges included Abby Silverman, Avril Graham, Danya Issawi, Evan Hirsch, Fern Mallis, Freya Drohan, Jerome Lamaar, Jian DeLeon, Kevin Huynh, Lisa Lockwood, Mandy Lee, Mickey Boardman, Natalie Lim Suarez, Nicole Chapoteau, and Tiffany Reid, whose collective expertise underscored the competition’s high standards.

Beyond the competition, the Supima Design Lab component of the evening further amplified global creativity.
