Eldon Square Spotlights Fashion's Digital Revolution
Newcastle’s Eldon Square shopping centre recently hosted its inaugural ‘Future of Fashion’ event, a collaborative initiative designed to spotlight the growing intersection of digital technology and the fashion industry. Organized in conjunction with the British Fashion Council (BFC) and expertly curated by Sunderland Software City, the event aimed to significantly contribute to the expansion of the digital and technology sector across the North East of England, emphasizing innovation's pivotal role in shaping the industry's trajectory.
The groundbreaking event transformed a dedicated section of the centre into a vibrant and dynamic hub of creative, technological, and immersive experiences. Visitors were offered a compelling glimpse into fashion’s digital future through three distinct and innovative zones, each showcasing cutting-edge applications. Highlights included captivating holographic displays that brought designs to life, immersive virtual reality (VR) catwalks offering a new perspective on fashion shows, and interactive design experiences powered by advanced gaming platforms, allowing for unprecedented engagement.
Building on momentum generated by preliminary workshops for students and creative professionals, the ‘Future of Fashion’ event stands as a prime example of the ongoing collaboration between the BFC and Eldon Square, demonstrating their shared commitment to supercharging the power of fashion in Newcastle. Beyond this landmark event, Eldon Square continues to champion the next generation of talent by actively partnering with Newcastle College. This support extends to creating a prominent 24-metre mural on Blackett Street, proudly showcasing the creativity of students from fashion and design courses, and providing them with a vital public platform to share their innovative work.
Helen Cowie, Centre Director at Eldon Square, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “The event has been an exciting opportunity to bring our vision of championing the emerging talent of tomorrow to life. At Eldon Square, we are passionate about supporting the next generation, whether that’s through landmark events such as this or through our ongoing collaborations with Newcastle College.” Echoing this sentiment, Jenna Ingoe, Innovation Manager at Sunderland Software City, added, “The event was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the transformative role digital technologies are already playing in the fashion and retail sectors, and to highlight how they are shaping the future of fashion.”
Looking ahead to the autumn, Eldon Square intends to further strengthen its position as a key driver of retail and fashion innovation in the North East, leveraging its British Fashion Council patronage. This prestigious patronage places Eldon Square alongside some of the most influential names in British fashion, providing an unparalleled platform to showcase the North East’s creative potential on a national stage. By aligning with the BFC, Eldon Square is not only elevating its profile within the industry but also opening up new and exciting opportunities for brands, designers, and retailers to engage with and influence emerging trends.
