Estée Lauder Invests in Mexican Fragrance Brand Xinú Marking First Latin American Acquisition
The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has announced a significant strategic move, acquiring a minority stake in Xinú, a distinguished Mexican luxury fragrance brand. This landmark deal represents ELC's inaugural investment in a Latin American brand, underscoring its expanding focus on regional entrepreneurship and innovation within the global beauty landscape.
The investment was channeled through Estée Lauder’s New Incubation Ventures arm, a dedicated division focused on identifying and nurturing emerging beauty brands and novel business models that are poised to shape the future of the industry. Stéphane de La Faverie, president and chief executive officer of The Estée Lauder Companies, articulated the motivation behind this move, stating, "Fragrance excellence and craftsmanship are at the heart of The Estée Lauder Companies, and they drive our passion for discovering new voices in beauty."
De La Faverie further emphasized Mexico's burgeoning role as a hub for fragrance innovation, where "craftsmanship and cultural relevance come together in remarkable ways." He lauded Xinú for embodying this spirit, redefining contemporary luxury through its authenticity, artistry, and evocative storytelling. ELC's investment as a minority stakeholder signifies its commitment to supporting Xinú's growth and its mission to share Mexico and Latin America's rich creativity and spirit with a global audience, reflecting a deep belief in the region's extraordinary talent.
Founded in 2017, Xinú has rapidly garnered recognition for its immersive sensorial retail environments, its commitment to a sustainable design ethos, and its product range that expertly blends heritage reverence with a reimagined sense of modern luxury. The brand's unique identity is a testament to the combined expertise of its three founders.
Verónica Peña is the visionary behind Xinú’s distinctive olfactory creations, guiding the brand's scent narrative. Ignacio Cadena contributes a bold aesthetic, defining the brand's compelling visual language. Completing the trio is Héctor Esrawe, one of Latin America's most celebrated industrial designers, whose meticulous attention to detail and avant-garde sensibilities reinforce Xinú's profound authenticity and design integrity.
Verónica Peña commented on the monumental nature of this investment for Xinú, signaling a new chapter where the brand's unique vision for a fragrance company converges with global possibilities. She expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with The Estée Lauder Companies, which will enable Xinú to boldly advance its aim of pushing the boundaries of what fragrance can represent: "a medium of storytelling, a vessel for culture, and a deeply human experience that transcends borders."
