Extreme Cashmere Opens Lavish Soho Flagship Bringing Its Elevated Luxury to North America
Extreme Cashmere has officially marked a significant milestone in its global expansion with the grand opening of its inaugural North American flagship store, nestled in the vibrant Soho district of New York City. This highly anticipated retail space, located at 152 Mercer Street, represents a pivotal step for the luxury cashmere brand, bringing its distinctive aesthetic and philosophy to a key international market.
The design of the new Extreme Cashmere boutique is a testament to innovative retail thinking, conceived in close collaboration with the renowned architect and designer Hidde Dijkstra. The space masterfully blends cutting-edge retail design principles with the intimate warmth and sophistication of a luxurious private home. Drawing inspiration from the refined sensibilities of 20th-century modernism and the discerning eye of a collector, the interior creates an inviting and immersive environment for visitors.
Inside, the store’s ambiance is further elevated by a meticulously curated selection of furnishings. The design features an exquisite mix of vintage and contemporary pieces, all thoughtfully sourced from across Europe. Notable elements include a distinctive 1970s Italian coffee table and a charming sofa discovered at the legendary Marché aux Puces in Paris, each adding a layer of rich history and character. These are complemented by iconic Milo Baughman steel-frame chairs, artfully upholstered in a striking poppy-printed fabric, contributing to the store's unique and sophisticated aesthetic.
Beyond its impressive design, the flagship offers a unique shopping experience. Extreme Cashmere's signature gender-neutral fashion collections are subtly presented within elegant floor-to-ceiling closets, allowing the garments to be discovered rather than overtly displayed. Furthermore, the store incorporates comfortable lounge areas, encouraging visitors to relax, unwind, and truly immerse themselves in the brand's world, fostering a more thoughtful and unhurried interaction with the exquisite cashmere pieces.
The New York City opening follows closely on the heels of the brand's successful debut flagship store in its native Amsterdam, which opened in April of this year. Saskia Dijkstra, who founded Extreme Cashmere in 2016, emphasized the evolution of their retail vision, stating, “Building on the concept we developed in Amsterdam, we’re taking our very first flagship in New York to the next level.” She articulated the profound philosophy behind the space, adding, "This store is about time, and having the luxury of slowing down – interacting genuinely with the brand and the garments, and truly considering what you buy.” This sentiment encapsulates Extreme Cashmere’s commitment to fostering a deeper connection between its customers and its timeless, high-quality creations.
