Fendi Taps Luxury Veteran Francesca Leoni as New Global Chief Communications Officer
Francesca Leoni has been appointed as Fendi's new Global Chief Communications Officer, a move confirmed by the LVMH-owned luxury maison to FashionNetwork.com. Leoni steps into this pivotal role, succeeding Cristiana Monfardini, and brings with her a wealth of experience from a distinguished career spanning over 25 years within the luxury sector. She joins Fendi directly from Michael Kors, where she held a significant leadership position.
Before her transition to Fendi, Leoni spent seven years based in New York, serving as the Chief Brand Officer at Michael Kors, the flagship brand under Capri Holdings. Her extensive background also includes a substantial tenure at Valentino in Rome, where she worked as the Global Communications and Image Director from 2010 to 2018. These roles underscore her deep understanding of brand strategy and global communication within the high-fashion landscape.
Leoni's earlier career further showcases her profound expertise in luxury communications. In the decade preceding her time at Valentino, she was instrumental in shaping the public image of other prestigious brands. She led global public relations for Bulgari for five years and subsequently oversaw PR and events for Hermès for another five years. Her initial foray into the fashion industry dates back to 1993, when she began her career at Malo in the US, heading their public relations efforts for over seven years.
An alumna of New York University with a degree in Art, Leoni takes the reins from Cristiana Monfardini, who departs from the Roman fashion house after a remarkable two-decade tenure as its communications head. This transition marks a new chapter for Fendi's communications strategy under Leoni's seasoned leadership.
Leoni's appointment is not an isolated event but rather an integral part of a significant and ongoing transformation within the LVMH brand. This strategic overhaul at Fendi commenced in July with the arrival of new CEO Ramon Ros. The changes have continued with the recent appointment of Maria Grazia Chiuri, previously a designer at Dior, as the new creative director, succeeding Silvia Venturini Fendi, who has transitioned to the esteemed role of the maison's honorary president.
