Fendi Unveils Expanded Roman-Inspired Boutique at Harrods
Fendi has recently unveiled a significantly expanded and meticulously upgraded ready-to-wear boutique within London’s prestigious Harrods luxury department store, situated in Knightsbridge. This permanent space is a distinguished addition to the Women’s Superbrands selection, located on the store's first floor. The renovation marks a substantial enhancement, increasing the label's original footprint on the floor by an additional 50 square meters, bringing the total area to an impressive 175 square meters. According to the company, this elevated boutique serves as "an expression of Fendi’s timeless DNA: one of both modernity and tradition, whereby past informs future and craftsmanship is celebrated," encapsulating the brand's core values.
The architectural essence of the new boutique is deeply inspired by Fendi’s native Rome, echoing the city’s rich history and distinctive topography. Visitors will discover an immersive environment where ancient Roman design principles are reimagined with contemporary flair. This is evident in the exquisite Palladiana flooring, crafted from a combination of Travertino Ascoli and Giallo Valencia marble, creating a visually striking foundation. The walls are finished in a refined Calce Romana, complementing the columnar details that elegantly reinterpret Rome’s ancient architecture into a modern aesthetic, thus blurring the lines between historical grandeur and present-day sophistication.
Upon entering, the boutique unfolds into three distinct rooms, each thoughtfully designed to offer a unique experience. The space presents a comprehensive curation of Fendi's women’s ready-to-wear collections and an extensive array of accessories, prominently featuring the brand's iconic handbags. Each section is meticulously arranged to showcase the artistry and innovation synonymous with Fendi, guiding the patron through a journey of style and luxury.
The main room serves as the boutique's captivating centrepiece, dominated by a monumental artwork created by the renowned French sculptor and ceramicist Olivia Cognet. This striking installation comprises a totemic column, distinguished by her signature bas ceramics. This powerful piece is said to translate the fundamental tenets of mid-century modernism into a contemporary style, providing a sophisticated focal point that harmonizes with the surrounding luxury apparel and accessories.
Further into the boutique, a second room offers a more intimate and serene atmosphere. This space is characterized by a lush, carpeted floor that invites a sense of comfort, paired with natural-toned walls that exude warmth. Here, the displays of ready-to-wear garments are designed to "evoke the anastylosis concept," where decorative elements thoughtfully incorporate columnar displays fashioned from handmade glass, ribbed Travertine, and striking Rosso Lepanto marble, creating a visually rich and textural experience that elevates the presentation of the collections.
For an unparalleled level of discretion and service, the boutique features a private VIP Salon, accessible via a cleverly disguised passageway from the exterior, ensuring utmost privacy for exclusive clients. The salon’s design is particularly notable for its undulating walls, specifically engineered to simulate the graceful movement of leather, adding a tactile and artistic dimension to the space. When not in use for private appointments, this versatile room can be seamlessly opened up to display additional clothing and accessories from Fendi’s latest collections. The boutique’s exterior also boasts a distinctive ribbed facade and two additional window displays, thoughtfully designed to capture and convey the renovated boutique’s impressive sense of scale and its refined aesthetic to passersby.
