Fenwick's Christmas Windows Dive into Dickens' A Christmas Carol
Fenwick is set to enchant audiences once again with its highly anticipated 2025 Christmas Window collection, a captivating display that promises to resonate deeply with those who cherish traditional festive themes. This year, the iconic department store group has embraced Charles Dickens’ timeless classic, ‘A Christmas Carol,’ transforming its windows into a magnificent "celebration of family, community and the joy of storytelling." The choice of this beloved narrative reflects a commitment to classic festive cheer and a rich, evocative storytelling experience for all.
Building on the resounding success of last year’s "widely-loved" Christmas Window, which famously showcased author and illustrator Chris Riddell’s contemporary reinterpretation of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas,’ Fenwick has renewed its partnership with the esteemed former Children’s Laureate. Chris Riddell’s unique artistic vision is once again instrumental in bringing this year’s theme to life, leveraging what Fenwick describes as "the magic of creative storytelling" to translate Dickens’ intricate world into a visual spectacle.
The 2025 window series meticulously recreates the traditional scenes from Dickens’ seminal novel, transporting viewers directly into Victorian England. The display unfolds the poignant tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, chronicling his journey from years of rejecting Christmas cheer to a profound path of self-reflection. Through a series of encounters with various ghosts, Scrooge's transformation is vividly depicted, offering a powerful narrative of redemption and the true spirit of Christmas.
Adding another layer of immersive artistry, Fenwick has continued its tradition of collaborating with musical experts. As in previous years, The Glasshouse International Centre for Music has been commissioned to compose a bespoke score specifically for the display, ensuring that the visual narrative is complemented by an equally enchanting auditory experience. Mia Fenwick, executive deputy chair, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “Our 2025 Christmas Window has been brought to life by the extraordinary talent of Chris Riddell. This year’s reimagining of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol combines Chris’s distinctive artistry with our team’s craftsmanship to create a celebration of storytelling, creativity and festive spirit.”
