Fila Returns Home: Historic Biella Headquarters Reopens as Immersive Brand Experience

Fila, the revered Italian sportswear brand, has marked a significant homecoming with the grand opening of its new brand experience center in Biella, the very city in Piedmont where it was founded in 1911. This monumental return sees Fila reclaim its historic headquarters at viale Cesare Battisti 26, a building that served as the brand's operational heart from 1923 until 2004, symbolizing a deep reconnection with its roots.

The company meticulously bought back and fully renovated the viale Cesare Battisti building, transforming the 8,200-square-meter space into a multi-faceted hub. It now proudly houses the Fila Museum, extensive archives for footwear, apparel, and documents, modern offices, and versatile multipurpose areas designed for events and meetings, ensuring a comprehensive brand immersion for visitors and employees alike.

Within this impressive structure, Fila has curated an immersive and engaging exhibition that meticulously traces its storied transformation. Visitors can journey from its early days as an underwear producer to its pivotal shift in the 1970s towards activewear, a strategic move spearheaded by Enrico Frachey. Frachey astutely identified tennis as a key sport, forging iconic links with legendary athletes such as Björn Borg, who became a renowned ambassador for the brand.

The museum's dedicated tennis section stands as a vibrant tribute to this golden era, allowing visitors to time-travel through Fila’s groundbreaking history up to its latest innovations. A highlight is the celebration of the 1974 introduction of the "White Line" collection, which revolutionized tennis apparel by boldly introducing color, famously seen in the first pin-striped polos worn by Borg, thereby breaking new aesthetic ground in the sport.

Beyond tennis, the sports section extends its homage to other extraordinary athletes who achieved memorable feats wearing Fila. This includes Reinhold Messner's breathtaking 1978 ascent of Mount Everest without supplementary oxygen and Giovanni Soldini's numerous global circumnavigations in Fila sailing gear. Additionally, the museum features a dynamic Sneakers area, mapping the evolution of footwear and underscoring Fila's profound impact on 1990s street culture, solidifying its status as a defining name of the decade.

The narrative culminates by showcasing Fila's remarkable development into a brand capable of seamlessly crossing the boundaries between sport and high fashion. Through highly successful collaborations with prestigious names such as Fendi, Y Project, Haider Ackermann, Roksanda, and global style icon Hailey Bieber, Fila demonstrates its continued relevance and influence across diverse cultural landscapes.

This comprehensive Fila brand experience center is set to open its doors to the public, welcoming enthusiasts and new visitors alike from November 14.
