Footasylum Returns to Silverburn in Major Expansion
Footasylum, a prominent national sports and fashion retailer, has officially made its return to Glasgow’s Silverburn, further solidifying the premier shopping destination’s fashion offering. This strategic move sees the retailer securing a substantially larger footprint, occupying a expansive 9,585 sq ft two-storey unit within the Eurofund Group-operated centre. The return marks a significant development for both Footasylum and Silverburn, highlighting a period of robust growth and strategic expansion for the popular brand.
The decision to return to Silverburn with an upsized store is consistent with Footasylum’s aggressive expansion strategy across the UK over the past couple of years. The brand has been actively enhancing its retail presence by relocating to larger units in key destinations, including a triple-the-size unit at West Midland’s Merryhill, Metrocentre Gateshead, and Lakeside, Essex. Furthermore, Footasylum has cemented its status in the retail landscape with the opening of flagship stores on London’s Oxford Street and the Birmingham Bullring, showcasing its commitment to key high-traffic locations.
This expansion comes on the heels of impressive financial performance for Footasylum. In July, the company released its final FY25 results, reporting a strong rise in both sales and profit, with the initial months of the current trading year also performing ahead of expectations. The financial year 2024 was particularly stellar, delivering "record results" that included positive revenue growth and a remarkable 188% jump in profits, underscoring the brand’s sustained success and market appeal.
Silverburn itself has also been experiencing a period of unprecedented growth and success. During 2024, the shopping destination achieved record footfall for the second consecutive year, attracting over 15 million visits and achieving double-digit sales growth. This performance reflects the strategic enhancements made under three years of joint venture ownership by Henderson Park and Eurofund Group, during which over 60 deals have been agreed, significantly elevating Silverburn's status as the leading retail and leisure destination in Scotland. The return of Footasylum follows a string of other high-profile fashion brand arrivals, including Bershka, Hollister, Pull & Bear, and Stradivarius, further enriching Silverburn’s diverse retail mix.
Alberto Esguevillas, CEO UK Retail at Eurofund Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the brand’s return, stating: “Footasylum is a standout success story in the UK retail market, and we see [its] return to Silverburn [as] a welcome and popular new arrival.” This new store not only marks Footasylum’s fourth outlet in Glasgow but also adds to its extensive existing portfolio of approximately 60 stores across the nation, reinforcing its strong position in the competitive sports and fashion retail sector.
