Golden Globes Red Carpet: Glamour, Politics, and Star Style Shine Bright

Hollywood’s brightest stars graced the red carpet at the Golden Globes on Sunday, marking the first major awards event leading up to the Oscars, and the evening was defined by a return to classic glamour.

Selena Gomez, nominated for Best Comedy Actress for her role in “Only Murders in the Building,” exuded happiness alongside her husband, Benny Blanco. She chose a sophisticated black Chanel column gown, beautifully contrasted with a frothy white feathered strapless neckline, and styled her black bob in soft waves.

Gomez wasn’t the only one opting for understated elegance; many stars favored black and other dark, wintry shades. Teyana Taylor, recognized for her powerful performance in “One Battle After Another,” made a striking impression in a black Schiaparelli gown featuring a cut-out back, halter neckline, and a playful crystal bow detail.

Ariana Grande, competing with Taylor for Best Supporting Actress for her work in “Wicked: For Good,” also turned heads in a black textured Vivienne Westwood ballgown. The gown boasted an asymmetrical neckline and a dramatic bubble silhouette that flowed to the floor, complemented by her signature ponytail and a simple diamond choker.

Amy Madigan, also nominated in the supporting actress category for “Weapons,” took a different approach, choosing a chic tuxedo look with cropped pants and patent leather boots. Jenna Ortega, embracing the gothic aesthetic of her character in “Wednesday,” wore a black Dilara Findikoglu gown with glittering epaulets and strategic cut-outs.

Among the male attendees, Colman Domingo stood out in a head-to-toe black Valentino ensemble, adorned with silvery appliques cascading from his shoulder to his waist.

Jennifer Lopez, known for her iconic fashion moments – like her 2000 Grammys look – continued her reign on the red carpet. Despite her performance in “Kiss of the Spider Woman” being overlooked by Globes voters, Lopez captivated in a figure-hugging, sheer Versace gown with bronze patterns and a mermaid fishtail.

Jennifer Lawrence, nominated for Best Drama Actress for “Die My Love,” also embraced the sheer trend, wearing a barely-there nude Givenchy gown delicately embellished with strategically placed flowers.

The Golden Globes weren’t solely about fashion; a touch of political expression was also present. Several stars, including Mark Ruffalo, wore pins supporting Renee Good, a woman fatally shot by a federal immigration agent, with the message “BE GOOD.”

Comedian Wanda Sykes and actress Natasha Lyonne also showed their support for the campaign, endorsed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), by wearing the pins on their lapels and clutch, respectively.
