Golden Goose Launches Padel Arena in Milan, Blending Luxury, Sport, and Community

The Golden Goose Arena has officially opened its doors in Milan's CityLife Park, establishing itself as a premier destination for padel enthusiasts. This expansive facility, a collaboration with luxury sneaker brand Golden Goose, spans over 3,000 square meters and features nine courts, dedicated lounge areas, and retail spaces. Silvio Campara, CEO of Golden Goose, revealed at the opening ceremony that the project represents an eight-figure investment, underscoring the brand's significant commitment to this venture.

The arena's state-of-the-art sports area covers 2,800 square meters and boasts a diverse range of courts. This includes six premium all-black indoor courts, an immersive pro court equipped with advanced tracking cameras and an LED scoreboard, and two distinct vintage-style outdoor courts. Complementing the athletic facilities is a 1,000-square-meter store dedicated to Golden Goose’s 'Star' line, offering exclusive product personalization services and additional inviting lounge spaces for visitors.

Silvio Campara articulated Golden Goose's philosophy behind the arena, emphasizing its role as a community hub rather than solely a profit-driven venture. "The Arena is a place where the community interacts with the brand. We need to create value, not just make money," Campara stated, highlighting a focus on the common good. The project strategically taps into the booming global padel trend, which has seen a 158% year-on-year increase to 39 million players, notably attracting a significant female demographic, aligning with Golden Goose’s customer base where 70% are women.

Beyond sport and commerce, the Golden Goose Arena champions social inclusion. Campara proudly announced it as the world's first padel stadium fully accessible to people with disabilities. The facility also features areas open to the public, including a restaurant and a playground, with an outdoor area and permanent kiosk expected to be fully operational by November. The arena anticipates drawing more than 40,000 visitors annually, further cementing its role as a vibrant community space.

The substantial investment solidifies the arena's status as the largest recreational area in Milan, attracting considerable interest from major investors across America, Europe, and China. Addressing market speculation regarding potential acquisitions, Campara commented, "We are the only direct-to-consumer brand growing at double digits. It’s natural to be in the spotlight." He expressed confidence in the brand's continued financial growth, projecting a positive close for the 2025 financial year, consistent with 2024's upward trend.

The architectural and artistic vision for the arena was led by Fabio Novembre, with a striking hand-shaped sculpture by Fabio Viale dominating the entrance, its finger pointing skyward. Novembre explained its symbolism: "It is the same hand as the Colossus of Constantine, but tattooed, it becomes the symbol of the arena." He praised padel as "an inclusive and democratic sport, practiced equally by men and women." The arena's translucent façades allow it to transform into a luminous lantern illuminating the park at night, and Novembre highlighted its flexible design, allowing for dismantling in just two days without the use of concrete.

The genesis of this ambitious project was spearheaded by former AC Milan star and fervent padel enthusiast, Demetrio Albertini. Recognizing the sport's rapid ascent in Rome, Albertini co-founded City Padel with his friend Lorenzo Alfieri, the company now managing the new facility. Albertini recalled, "In Milan, there were only four padel courts," and their aim since 2017 has been to promote the CityLife area through this universally accessible and community-building sport, which successfully blends competition with enjoyment.

Milan's Mayor Beppe Sala expressed his admiration for the project's quality, noting the impressive growth of padel in the city. He highlighted Milan's current count of 16 municipal courts (with 70 more under concession) and approximately 300 private courts, bringing the total to around 400. Mayor Sala underscored the arena's broader impact, stating, "This space is not just for sport; it enhances the sense of community. It attracts people, creates jobs and benefits the city as a whole."

Sustainability is a core component of the Golden Goose Arena’s operation. A partnership with Atlante will see the arena powered by a 150-kilowatt photovoltaic system, designed to meet all daytime energy needs. In a subsequent phase, a battery storage unit will be installed to capture surplus energy for evening use, aiming for the arena to achieve complete round-the-clock energy self-sufficiency.

Demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility, profits generated by the Golden Goose Arena will be entirely reinvested into Milan's outlying neighborhoods. This initiative will be carried out in close cooperation with the city government, ensuring the arena's success contributes directly to the betterment of the wider community.
