i-D Taps Marcelo Gutierrez as Global Beauty Editor-at-Large to Launch Inaugural Beauty Zine
i-D Magazine has announced the significant appointment of Marcelo Gutierrez as its global beauty editor-at-large, effective immediately. This strategic move signals a bold new direction for the publication's beauty editorial, with Gutierrez poised to lead the development of i-D’s inaugural ‘beauty zine’ – a limited-edition print product anticipated to launch in early 2026.
Gutierrez brings a rich and diverse background to his new role, having risen from New York’s vibrant underground art and nightlife scene to become an internationally recognized make-up artist. i-D highlighted his unique trajectory, noting that "Utilizing his multidisciplinary background he has created a signature visual language that fuses emotion, identity, and experimentation." This distinctive approach is expected to deeply influence i-D's beauty narrative across all platforms.
Throughout his career, Gutierrez has amassed an impressive portfolio, collaborating with a roster of leading artists and photographers. His work has graced the pages of prestigious publications such as Vogue US, Vogue Italia, Harper’s Bazaar, CR Fashion Book, and i-D itself. Beyond editorial contributions, his creative and commercial partnerships span global luxury houses, including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, MAC, Marc Jacobs, and Calvin Klein, underscoring his extensive influence within the fashion and beauty industries.
In his capacity as global beauty editor-at-large, Marcelo will play a pivotal role in shaping i-D’s overarching beauty point-of-view across both digital and print mediums. His responsibilities will encompass the highly anticipated limited-edition print beauty zine and contribute significantly to issue 376, scheduled for release in spring 2026. Furthermore, he will continue to lend his exceptional make-up artistry to some of i-D’s most prominent projects and editorial shoots, ensuring his creative vision is directly embedded in the publication’s visual output.
Thom Bettridge, i-D Magazine editor-in-chief and chief brand officer, expressed profound admiration for Gutierrez's work. “I’ve long admired the complexity and depth within Marcelo’s work. He is an artist who has a unique understanding of the ways in which beauty is a reflection of culture, of how we actively choose to present ourselves to the world as people,” Bettridge commented. This sentiment underscores the magazine’s intent to explore beauty not just as aesthetics, but as a powerful form of cultural expression and identity, a philosophy Marcelo Gutierrez is uniquely positioned to champion.
