Iceberg Fuses Britpop Cool with Milanese Chic for SS26

Italian label Iceberg showcased its Spring/Summer 2026 collection at Milan Fashion Week, presenting a distinctive reinterpretation of Britpop style infused with a sophisticated Milanese sensibility. Creative Director James Long, who drew inspiration from an Italian perspective with a quintessential British twist, unveiled a range of garments that included zip-up bomber jackets, elegant linen trench coats, precisely fitted knitwear, sharply creased tailored trousers, and boldly flowing skirts, defining the essence of the new season.

James Long articulated his vision, stating, “I love Iceberg’s freedom, the sportswear attitude characteristic of the label’s DNA, which is also part of my creative background. This is [Iceberg’s] seasonal mood: a sporty Italian state of mind blended with a British viewpoint. It’s sharp, it’s playful, it’s totally Iceberg.” This statement encapsulates the collection’s core identity, marrying dynamic sportswear with refined European aesthetics, a signature blend for the brand.

The collection’s knitwear stood out with its emphasis on fitted silhouettes, notably seen in long-sleeved polo shirts featuring contrasting collars. Lightweight, body-cocooning knitted dresses, adorned with intricate drop-stitch diagonals, further highlighted the label’s mastery of knitwear. A particularly innovative styling choice involved a knitted dress layered over draped sections of sheer chiffon, adding depth and texture. The range also presented miniskirts with uniquely curled asymmetrical panels and sleek leather blazers paired with back-slit pencil skirts, showcasing a harmonious blend of edgy and classic elements.

Beyond these foundational pieces, Long’s collection exuded a strong character through various standout items. This included a striking zip-up knitted top embellished with yellow and green braided stripes set against a jersey base. Long ribbed dresses featured elegantly woven V-necklines, while striped shirts with sporty shoulder panels were layered to create dynamic looks. Furthermore, some trousers were designed with double creases, generating sharp volumes and contributing to the collection’s overall modern and architectural feel.

Paolo Gerani, CEO of Gilmar, Iceberg’s parent company, reflected on James Long’s decade-long tenure, remarking to FashionNetwork.com, “His British spirit blends well with our Italian taste. We always mix a little femininity with a sportswear touch. James is very good, he's extremely consistent, collection after collection. It's something you don’t often see, other than in labels with a very strong DNA. He’s so good because he puts himself at the label's disposal.” This commendation underscores Long's profound understanding of Iceberg's identity and his ability to consistently deliver collections that resonate with its heritage.

Gilmar reported a stable revenue of €50 million for its last fiscal year, consistent with the previous period, with Eastern Europe and the USA identified as its primary markets. Gerani also revealed three new strategic initiatives designed to diversify and expand the company’s reach. These include establishing a new manufacturing unit for luxury labels, already partnering with prominent brands like Gucci, Burberry, and Zegna; the recent launch of Iceberg Jeans, a more accessible line targeting a younger demographic; and a new venture into collaborating with hospitality clients, indicating a robust expansion strategy.

Despite these forward-looking initiatives, Gerani offered a candid assessment of the current global fashion landscape. “These are extremely tough times for the fashion industry as a whole, and for consumption in general. It's like when an aircraft crashes, there are always multiple causes. This is what's happening now: Wars, [weak] spending capacity, geopolitical uncertainty,” he stated. While acknowledging the adage of "opportunity in every crisis," Gerani emphasized the profound nature of the current challenges, concluding, “Rather than the markets, we need to understand how fashion might change once the ‘era of appearances’ is past,” suggesting a fundamental shift in consumer values and industry paradigms.
