J.Crew Group, the prominent American fashion company, officially announced the appointment of Gena Smith as its new Chief Human Resources Officer on Thursday. Based at the company's New York headquarters, Smith will assume a pivotal role in shaping the organization's people strategy.

In her new capacity, Smith will be responsible for overseeing all facets of J.Crew Group's human resources function. This comprehensive mandate includes talent acquisition, fostering employee engagement, enhancing inclusion and belonging initiatives, developing leadership capabilities, and optimizing organizational effectiveness. She will report directly to Libby Wadle, the Chief Executive Officer of J.Crew Group, underscoring the strategic importance of this role within the company.

Gena Smith brings an impressive two decades of extensive experience in human resources across both the fashion and retail sectors. Prior to joining J.Crew Group, she held the esteemed position of Chief Human Resources Officer at LVMH North America. Her tenure at LVMH also included several other senior leadership roles, notably serving as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Head of Global Executive and Creative Recruitment.

Before her impactful tenure at LVMH, Smith further honed her expertise as the Global Managing Director at Karen Harvey Consulting Group. Her distinguished career also features leadership roles at other renowned firms such as Russell Reynolds Associates and Ray Berndtson, showcasing a diverse background in talent management and executive search across various industries.

Beyond her corporate responsibilities, Smith actively contributes to the wider fashion and design community. She currently serves on the board of governors for both the Fashion Scholarship Fund and the prestigious Parsons School of Design. Additionally, she is a valued member of the board of directors for the acclaimed fashion brand, Gabriela Hearst.
