Jigsaw Unveils Refurbished Iconic Kensington Flagship with Nigel Coates at the Helm

Women’s fashion retailer Jigsaw is set to unveil its newly refurbished flagship store on London’s Kensington High Street, affectionately known as its “iconic home.” Reopening its doors on October 2nd, this significant 2,300 sq ft space marks a striking evolution of the brand’s rich heritage, promising customers an elevated shopping experience in a locale that has long been central to Jigsaw’s identity.

The reimagined store’s design comes courtesy of Nigel Coates, the acclaimed architect who originally conceived the very first Jigsaw store in 1988. His initial vision was to translate the brand’s natural linens and sun-soaked colours into a vibrant, Mediterranean-inspired world. Over three decades later, Coates’ return ensures that the new flagship not only honours its original design language but also propels it forward with contemporary relevance and sophistication.

Staying true to a commitment to conscious design, the refurbishment emphasizes sustainability and thoughtful material use. The store showcases natural materials throughout and thoughtfully incorporates upcycled key elements, such as repurposed elm wood flooring salvaged from Jigsaw’s former Kew head office. This meticulous approach has resulted in an elevated, boutique-style environment, carefully curated to invite customers to explore Jigsaw’s latest collections within a setting that feels both inspiring and intimately personal.

A harmonious blend of restored classics and bespoke new additions defines the interior. Signature features, including designer Tom Dixon’s original sun light installation and Nigel Coates’ distinctive wrought iron rail stands, have been meticulously restored and refinished, breathing new life into these iconic elements. Complementing these are bespoke Lilium suspension lights, also designed by Coates and expertly handcrafted in Italy, which further enhance the immersive and sophisticated atmosphere of the space.

Vicki Baker, Retail Director at Jigsaw, encapsulated the essence of this ambitious project: “High Street Kensington has always been an important part of Jigsaw’s story. Working once again with Nigel Coates, this reopening is both a celebration of our heritage and an exciting step into the future.” She added, “The new space beautifully captures everything we stand for: timeless style, beautiful design, and, crucially, an inspiring experience for all our customers.”
