Johnny Coca Departs Louis Vuitton After Landmark Tenure

Johnny Coca, a highly respected figure in the luxury fashion industry, is departing from his role as Director of Women's Fashion Leather Goods and Accessories at Louis Vuitton. The news, reported by FashionNetwork.com, signifies the end of a collaboration spanning over five and a half years between the LVMH-owned French luxury house and the designer. This development marks a significant transition within Louis Vuitton's creative leadership in its accessories division.

Renowned as one of the industry's foremost handbag experts, Coca played a pivotal role within Louis Vuitton's leather goods team. During his most recent tenure, he worked closely under the artistic direction of Nicolas Ghesquière, who has overseen Louis Vuitton's women's collections since 2013. His expertise was instrumental in shaping the aesthetic and innovation of the brand's women's accessories.

The Seville-born designer boasts an impressive career trajectory that began with Louis Vuitton itself, where he first served as a leather goods designer in 1996. After this initial stint, Coca further honed his craft at Bally from 2004 to 2010. He then moved to Celine, contributing significantly from 2010 to 2015 as the head of design for leather goods, accessories, footwear, and jewellery. It was during his time at Celine, working alongside Phoebe Philo, that Coca particularly rose to prominence, helping to propel the house to the forefront of niche accessories through his innovative designs.

Before rejoining Louis Vuitton for his most recent role, Coca served as creative director at Mulberry for five years. There, he was credited with broadening the brand's luxury lifestyle offering, successfully introducing new handbag lines, and expanding into new product categories such as eyewear and trainers. Educated in art, architecture, and design in Paris, Coca’s extensive background and strategic vision have consistently left a lasting impact on every luxury house he has contributed to.
