JOOR Report Reveals Top Independent Retailers Drive 20% Transaction Growth
Digital wholesale specialist JOOR has released its JOOR: Top Global Retailers 2025 report, spotlighting what it identifies as "the hottest names" within the independent retail sector. The report reveals robust growth among these selected stores, which collectively saw a 20% year-on-year increase in transaction volume processed through the JOOR platform.
Further underscoring this vibrant expansion, the data indicates that the number of orders placed by this group of independent retailers surged by 23%, and the diversity of brands they purchased grew by 17% compared to the preceding 12 months. This marks the second annual issuance of the list, which notably features a significant influx of 87 new entries this year, highlighting the dynamic nature of the indie retail landscape.
Among the prominent new additions to the list are acclaimed North American retailers such as The Webster and Mitchells, alongside Asian powerhouses like Dongliang and Beams, and European stalwarts including Eraldo and Ekseption. Returning to the list, having maintained their influential status, are celebrated names such as Marissa Collections in the US, Gaudenzi in Italy, and Dover Street Market in the UK, reaffirming their continued impact in the global retail arena.
The full top 100 list paints a particularly positive picture for countries like Italy and the United States, both of which boast a disproportionately large representation. Italy, for instance, showcases an impressive roster including 10 Corso Como, 13 Metriquadri, Antonia, Boutique Tricot, Cenere, Chiesa Serafino, Colognese, Deliberti, Eraldo, Fiacchini, Folli Follie, G&B Negozio, Gaudenzi, Grifo Moda, Hobb’s, Hopencio, Lattuada, Leam, Lidia Shopping, Luciana Boutique, Marcesani, Monti, Ratti, SpazioLFashion, Suit, and Tiziana Fausti.
Similarly, the United States demonstrates a formidable presence with retailers such as Abersons, Atelier New York, Barbara Jean, Boyds, Bunny & Babe, CK & Co, Dune + Salt, Effies, Elizabeth and Prince, Erica Wilson, Fahrentheit 451, Gretta Luxe, Gypsy, Halls, Halsbrook, Hero Shop, Jill Roberts, l.a.cool, Marisa Collections, Maxfield, Michael Nusskern, Mitchells, Monkee's of Blowing Rock, Narcissus, Oak Hall, Periwinkle, Pitkin County Dry Goods, Rebecca & Co, Roan, Sam Malouf, Sassanova, Skirt, Sole Amour, The Toggery, The Webster, The Wellground, Two Skirts, Viavia, Willow and Wunderkind.
However, the report presents a less optimistic outlook for other key markets such as the UK and France, which are notably underrepresented. Dover Street Market stands as the sole UK name on the comprehensive list, while Mcmarket is France’s single qualifier, highlighting a concentrated presence of independent retail influence in these specific regions.
Beyond the dominant nations, the list reflects a broad international scope, with other countries represented including Belarus, Lebanon, Cyprus, Canada, China, Germany, Japan, Malta, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Norway, Andorra, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Belgium, showcasing the global reach of independent fashion retail.
Amanda McCormick Bacal, JOOR’s SVP of marketing, commented on these findings, stating that over the past year, the platform has "witnessed continued growth from the independent fashion retail sector, with businesses achieving success through thoughtful product curation and a deep understanding of their customer." This sentiment is further supported by platform-wide data, revealing that over the past five years, the percentage of total wholesale transaction volume on JOOR attributed to independent retailers has significantly increased, rising from 49% in 2020 to an impressive 62% in 2025, underscoring their growing importance in the fashion wholesale ecosystem.
