Kapten & Son partners with John Lewis for major UK retail expansion
German lifestyle accessories brand Kapten & Son is significantly expanding its footprint in the UK market through a major new retail partnership with department store group John Lewis. This collaboration marks a "significant milestone" for Kapten & Son's UK expansion strategy, representing its inaugural major department store presence in the country. Through John Lewis, customers will now have the opportunity to shop the brand's diverse range of products, including watches, eyewear, bags, and travel accessories, all crafted for "modern explorers seeking both function and style," available both in-store and online for the very first time.
Michael Rawson, UK project lead for Kapten & Son, emphasized the strategic importance of this move, stating, “With its strong brand following across Europe and North America, Kapten & Son’s move into John Lewis further cements its commitment to growth in the UK market.” This launch is integral to a broader strategy focused on expanding retail partnerships and enhancing the accessibility of its premium, sustainably designed accessories to a wider base of conscious consumers across the UK.
With a robust global presence encompassing over 300 retail partners in more than 50 countries, Kapten & Son’s expansion into the UK follows a track record of success across Europe, including well-established stores in major cities like Frankfurt, Vienna, and Amsterdam. Prior to this department store partnership, the brand initiated its experiential retail journey into the UK market by opening its flagship store on Covent Garden’s Neal Street in August, providing a dedicated space for customers to interact with the brand firsthand.
The flagship store in Covent Garden offers a series of innovative and interactive experience stations designed to enhance the customer journey. Visitors can utilize these stations to find their ideal backpack, while a dedicated packing table allows them to test the capacity of each backpack. For frequent flyers, a size check station ensures that bags meet hand luggage requirements. Furthermore, the store features a cutting-edge ‘Magic Mirror’ that enables shoppers to view how each backpack looks from behind, effectively "taking the guesswork out of fit and style" and providing a comprehensive shopping experience.
