Kim Bekker Takes Creative Helm at Isabel Marant as Founder Shifts Role
Isabel Marant, the renowned Parisian chic label, has officially announced an in-house transition on its creative front, with Kim Bekker stepping into a pivotal leadership role. This widely anticipated move was visibly confirmed at the brand's most recent Paris Fashion Week show, where Bekker, who has served as the founder's right hand since 2021, took her solo bow on the catwalk, signaling a new era for the prestigious French house.
According to reports from Vogue Business, Kim Bekker's influence has already been significantly felt. For the upcoming Autumn/Winter 2025/26 season, Bekker was responsible for designing the entire collection. This creative leadership was publicly endorsed by Isabel Marant herself, who stepped out alongside Bekker to take the final bow at the show's conclusion, underscoring the formal handover of design responsibilities.
While Bekker takes the helm creatively, Isabel Marant will remain an integral part of the company, transitioning to a three-day work week. This arrangement ensures her continued presence and guidance within the brand she established, while empowering new creative direction to flourish.
The Isabel Marant brand, encompassing a diverse range of womenswear, menswear, handbags, footwear, jewelry, and other accessories, was founded in 1990 by a then 23-year-old Isabel Marant. Initially operating under the name Twen for its first four years, it subsequently adopted its current eponymous title. In 2016, private equity firm Montefiore Investment SAS acquired a 51% stake in the company, with Isabel Marant and long-standing shareholders retaining the remaining shares.
Today, the brand offers a comprehensive ready-to-wear collection for both women and men, complemented by Isabel Marant Étoile, a more casual and accessible secondary line. Its extensive accessories portfolio includes eyewear, which was launched in 2020 and is produced by the Padua-based Safilo Group, further diversifying its market presence.
Kim Bekker brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the brand's DNA to her new role. A graduate of the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design, Bekker previously worked at Isabel Marant from 2008 to 2018, playing a crucial part in defining its distinctive style. After a three-year tenure as design director for pre-collections and finished products at Saint Laurent, she returned to Isabel Marant in March 2021, taking on a similar influential design position.
Bekker steps into her elevated role at a critical juncture for the company. In 2022, Isabel Marant reported revenues of approximately 300 million euros, with ambitious targets to reach 500 million euros by 2026. However, the first nine months of the 2024 financial year saw a 17% decline in sales, significantly impacted by a 31% contraction in the wholesale channel. It is now Kim Bekker's formidable task to inject new energy and revitalize the business trajectory of this esteemed French label.
