La Perla reborn: Luxury Holding acquires iconic lingerie brand, safeguarding all jobs

The prestigious luxury lingerie label La Perla has officially embarked on a new era, now integrated into the portfolio of Luxury Holding’s La Perla Atelier. This significant announcement comes from MIMIT, the Italian Ministry of Business and Made-in-Italy, signifying a pivotal moment for the iconic brand.

The transition follows a structured process that included the transfer of the Bologna production facility. Subsequently, the sale of La Perla Manufacturing, which was previously undergoing extraordinary administration, to La Perla Atelier was officially completed. La Perla Atelier is a company owned by Peter Kern through his investment vehicle, Luxury Holding. Concurrently, the license to utilise the renowned La Perla trademarks was transferred from the companies in Italy and the UK that were facing insolvency procedures, directly to the newly formed La Perla Atelier.

With the reopening of its Atelier, La Perla is poised to redefine its future by concentrating on highly specialised offerings. The brand plans to focus on exclusive re-editions, bespoke and made-to-order pieces, and new collections that are intended to encapsulate La Perla’s most personal and timeless vision of luxury, reaffirming its core identity.

Peter Kern, who has assumed the role of the new Chairman of La Perla Atelier, expressed profound optimism regarding this new phase. He stated, “This moment marks a true rebirth of the La Perla spirit that began in that Atelier more than 70 years ago. It is a return to the vision, craft, and mastery that have defined La Perla since its beginning. Rooted in heritage, we step forward into our next chapter, where our artisans will once again define the pinnacle of the category for all women, by creating works of art made to be lived in, everyday.” The overarching goal for the brand is to firmly re-establish its position as the global benchmark in luxury lingerie, seamlessly blending tradition with forward-thinking progress.

A crucial aspect of this operation highlighted by MIMIT is the comprehensive safeguarding of all employees. The new entity will absorb all 199 employees affected by the procedures related to La Perla Manufacturing and La Perla Global Management UK. The initial phase will see the absorption of 163 employees from La Perla Manufacturing, with the transfer of La Perla Global Management UK employees to be formalised in the coming days. The Ministry underscored that the employees' skills have been recognised as indispensable by the new management committed to relaunching the La Perla group.

MIMIT further detailed the complexity of the situation, noting that through Luxury Holding, "a unitary industrial solution has been found for one of the most significant defaults in [Italy’s] fashion sector, one of the most complex situations ever faced by MIMIT. For the first time, our offices have had to manage multiple procedures in different countries, involving legal complexities that seemed hard to resolve.” With La Perla now officially under the ownership of Luxury Holding’s La Perla Atelier, Minister Adolfo Urso of MIMIT declared, “a new manufacturing future can finally begin for La Perla. We have defended every job, safeguarded all workers and recognized the extraordinary value of their skills, a heritage the whole world envies [Italy]. It was an extraordinary outcome, the result of a genuine team effort. La Perla has been rescued, and can return to its rightful role on the international fashion scene.”
