Lisbon Fashion Week ignites the city with a week-long celebration of culture art and innovation

ModaLisboa Base, co-organised with the Lisbon City Council (CML), is set to transform the first week of October into a vibrant cultural platform in Lisbon. This initiative aims to showcase designer fashion to diverse audiences, inviting guests to "consider fashion as a cultural and social asset, capable of creating dialogue, recognition and belonging," as stated by the organisation. The programme features a rich array of free, open-to-all events, including exhibitions, talks, workshops, networking sessions, parties, performances, and even runway shows by multidisciplinary brands and creatives.

At the heart of this celebration, Lisboa Fashion Week (LFW) serves as a crucial bridge between creators and the wider community. It offers a unique dual experience of its shows, simultaneously presented in the physical space of Pátio da Galé, the central hub for most activities, and extended into the digital realm. Audiences can follow the action via livestream on LFW's digital platforms and RTP's website. Furthermore, the shows will be projected across the urban landscape at the ModaPortugal by CENIT/ANIVEC installation in Praça do Comércio – a historic site that once housed the Paço Real and Casa da Índia – as well as at various locations throughout the MOP network, broadening its reach significantly.

Among the notable highlights, "beat by be@t" makes its return to LFW, presenting its third edition at MUDE - Museu do Design. This year, the exhibition features "four circular and innovative textile projects developed by teams comprising fashion designers and small and medium-sized enterprises," according to Modalisboa.pt. Collaborations between Adriana Oliveira X Cordeiro e Campos, Francisca Campos X AAC Têxteis, Nicole Feliciano X ALLCOST, and Luís Carvalho X Cordeiro e Campos will be accessible to the public from October 1 to 5 at MUDE.

Also at MUDE, on October 4 and 5, artist, designer, and researcher Olga Noronha will unveil her latest show. This presentation is the culmination of extensive research and an aesthetic study delving into landscape, form, and matter. It specifically highlights "site-specific works and mixed approaches, both sculptural and a series of Lab Paintings ©," which are the result of Olga Noronha's dedicated development of new materials in the laboratory since 2018. These works aim to express the imprecise variations of colour and the intricate blending of senses and emotions.

In Praça do Comércio, between October 3 and 5, the installation 'Soil and Loom - From Earth to Digital Weaving' by ModaPortugal by CENIT/ANIVEC will captivate visitors. This powerful exhibit portrays the dynamic transition between tradition and innovation within the textile industry. It illustrates how regenerative agriculture, natural dyes, and biodegradable materials are interwoven with digitalisation, automation, and 3D design, ultimately weaving a sustainable and inclusive future that remains deeply connected to the earth while embracing technological progress.

The celebratory atmosphere kicks off with two key events. On Thursday, October 2, from 7 to 10 p.m., the Adidas X Sportino ModaLisboa Kick Off Party will ignite the energy at Sportino Chiado, located at 85 Rua Nova do Almada. This free-entry party "symbolically marks the start of Lisbon Fashion Week and launches the collective energy for the days that follow," serving as an exciting preview of the events to come. The following day, October 3, the festivities extend into the night with the Lisboa Fashion Week Afro Party, organised by Fourth Avenew and Cold Hearts, at Botanica 111, Rua do Norte 111. This event promises a "fluid dialogue between music and fashion" in an "immersive atmosphere," celebrating designers and musicians of African descent. Tickets are available for purchase at Eventbrite.com for €17.89.

OFF Lisboa Fashion Week, powered by contracoutura, returns with its commitment to nurturing emerging talent and forging connections between international creatives and the local ecosystem. The full programme is still in development and will soon be revealed on its website. Key highlights include the Wide Shades Exhibition: '1st of the Month', hosted at 80 Rua da Boavista, featuring a group exhibition, a dynamic DJ set, compelling installations by Wesley Barros and Hana Vuckovic, exquisite ceramics by Patrícia Sousa, and a unique fashion archive showcase. From October 2 to 5, the Pop-up @ Cyber Café will present cutting-edge emerging brands such as Chaos Kid, Inês Gordo, and Nexus Studio, complemented by engaging DJ sets and drinks between 6:30 and 9 p.m. The programme continues on October 4 at 21A Rua do Vale Formoso with 'Brunch contracoutura convida', an event harmonising music and gastronomy at the inauguration of the new space.

Finally, the dynamic and convergent space known as Fashion House, previously highlighted by FashionNetwork.com, introduces new features to its programme. This includes a performance by João Magalhães on October 4, at 6 p.m., and a host of new names added to its popular pop-up store. The pop-up store will be open on October 2 from 12 noon to 5 p.m., and from October 3 to 5 from 12 noon to 8 p.m., offering free entry. It will showcase pieces from an impressive roster of designers including ARNDES, Bárbara Atanásio, BÉHEN, Dino Alves, DuarteHajime, Francisca Nabinho, Isza X Sara Valdez, Kolovrat, Luís Carvalho, Luís Buchinho, Mestre Studio, Nuno Baltazar, Ricardo Andrez, Roselyn Silva, and Valentim Quaresma.
