Lola Casademunt Surges From Local Label to Global Powerhouse

Lola Casademunt, the Spanish womenswear and accessories label established in 1981 in Cardedeu, near Barcelona, has experienced an extraordinary period of expansion. From a presence solely in Spain and Portugal with an €8 million revenue in 2020, the brand has dramatically broadened its reach to 42 markets. By the close of fiscal 2024, it reported revenues of nearly €57 million, marking a substantial 25% increase from the previous year.

When asked about the secret behind this rapid ascent, CEO Paco Sánchez, who helms the label alongside president and creative director Maite Casademunt (the founder's daughter) and her husband Fernando Espona (also president), humorously attributed it to "Work, work and more work." Sánchez, who joined in February 2020 just before the pandemic, utilized the challenging period to strategize the brand's development. Key initiatives included a significant overhaul of the product range, enhancing quality, expanding the assortment, and revitalizing the accessories category, which was foundational to the brand but had become somewhat dormant. Furthermore, the company established a dedicated team for international expansion and ramped up investments in advertising.

This successful strategy is evident in Lola Casademunt’s robust operational footprint. The brand now employs approximately 140 individuals at its Cardedeu headquarters. Its direct retail network comprises 29 mono-brand stores across Spain, complemented by 44 concessions within El Corte Inglés department stores. Internationally, it operates three stores in Portugal, two in Andorra, two in Riyadh, one in Jeddah, concessions in Puerto Rico, and 14 shop-in-shops in Mexico. Beyond its direct retail channels, Lola Casademunt is also distributed through an extensive network of over 1,500 multi-brand retailers, with about 840 of these located outside Spain.

International markets now contribute significantly, accounting for approximately 35% of the label's total revenue. Portugal stands as the primary foreign market, closely followed by a competitive race between France and Italy for the second spot. Sánchez highlighted Italy's impressive growth, where the brand entered three and a half years ago and generated around €8 million in 2024, operating within 180 multi-brand retailers, primarily in central and southern Italy. Lola Casademunt aims to further expand this number and is considering opening its first Italian mono-brand store in 2027, with Milan or Rome as potential locations. While most Italian multi-brand partners are apparel stores, the brand plans to leverage its relaunched accessories and footwear lines to forge commercial relationships with specialized retailers in these categories.

Acknowledging the crucial role of digital channels, Lola Casademunt has significantly bolstered its online presence. From having no e-shop in 2020, the brand is now featured on prominent e-tailers such as El Corte Inglés, Zalando, and About You, and manages its own e-shops in nine different markets, including Italy. This strategic digital push has led to a remarkable increase in online sales, which now contribute 14% of the label's total revenue within just five years.

The brand currently offers two distinct product lines: the main Lola Casademunt collection, known for its vibrant, affordable, and characterful ready-to-wear pieces, and Lola Casademunt by Maite. The latter is a premium line designed by creative director Maite Casademunt herself, regularly showcased at Madrid and Barcelona fashion weeks. Reflecting its heritage and product expertise, the brand recently launched the Lola Casademunt 1981 handbag in Milan. This new model blends style and functionality, featuring intricate details like a cylindrical metal handle engraved with the logo, personalized inserts harking back to the label’s jewellery past, a lateral braid recalling its early days in hair accessories, and an interchangeable leather-effect studded shoulder strap. The handbag is available in small, medium, and large sizes, in five colors, and two distinct prints.

Despite a challenging global economic climate marked by ongoing conflicts, Lola Casademunt remains optimistic about its future trajectory. For 2025, the brand anticipates reaching a revenue of €60 million, projecting an approximate 6% growth. Looking further ahead, Sánchez revealed a particularly promising outlook for the Spring/Summer 2026 commercial campaign, which is already recording impressive increases in the order of 30%.
