Louis Vuitton's 2027 Cruise Collection Returns to New York City

Louis Vuitton's 2027 Cruise Collection Returns to New York City

Nicolas Ghesquière, the acclaimed artistic director of women’s collections at Louis Vuitton since 2013, is preparing to unveil his highly anticipated 2027 Cruise collection. The show is scheduled to take place on May 20 in New York City, though the precise location and timing remain a closely guarded secret. Ghesquière is renowned for his discerning choice of venues, consistently selecting architecturally significant buildings to serve as a dramatic backdrop for Louis Vuitton's Cruise spectacles.

This upcoming New York event continues a tradition of Ghesquière transforming iconic structures into temporary fashion stages. Just six years ago, in May 2019, he brought VIPs, clients, and editors to the striking TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport in New York, a masterpiece designed by architect and industrial designer Eero Saarinen. Demonstrating his impressive versatility in thematic and architectural choices, Ghesquière most recently transported the Cruise 2026 show to the historic Palais des Papes in Avignon, Southern France. This UNESCO World Heritage site, with its medieval grandeur, provided a brilliant setting for a display of chivalric chic, marking a distinct shift from the futurism of his previous New York presentation.

Ghesquière's global tour of architectural marvels for Louis Vuitton's Cruise shows has included an array of other remarkable locations. These encompass the Bob Hope estate in California’s Palm Springs, originally conceived by John Lautner; Brazil’s Museum of Contemporary Art Niterói, a modernist gem by Oscar Niemeyer; Kyoto’s Miho Museum, designed by I.M. Pei; the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence, France, by Josep Lluís Sert; and Barcelona’s fantastical Park Güell, the fairytale gardens envisioned by modernist architect Antoni Gaudí. His prior ventures into the United States for mega catwalk displays also include the Salk Institute in San Diego, a commanding clifftop research facility, and he has ventured into Italy, showcasing collections on Isola Bella, one of the picturesque Borromean islands on Lake Maggiore.

Louis Vuitton's choice of New York City for its upcoming Cruise collection highlights the metropolis's enduring appeal as a global fashion capital. The brand's decision to stage a major show in Manhattan places it among other luxury houses making a significant mark in the city, with Chanel's designer Matthieu Blazy also set to stage his first Métiers d’Art show in Manhattan on December 2.
