Lycra Company Elevates Leadership to Drive Innovation and Operational Excellence

The Lycra Company has announced significant leadership changes aimed at bolstering its operational efficiency and product innovation. Robert Johnston has been promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer, while Doug Kelliher has been appointed as Executive Vice President, Product. These strategic appointments are set to enhance the company's ability to respond to evolving market demands.

Robert Johnston, a distinguished veteran with 35 years of service at The Lycra Company, steps into his new capacity as COO. Previously serving as Executive Vice President, Operations, Johnston’s expanded scope will now include critical areas such as product development. His responsibilities will encompass the oversight of global manufacturing operations and IT, in addition to managing R&D talent, lab resources, and pilot production. This comprehensive role aims to drive innovation across the entire product portfolio, aligning with growth opportunities identified by Kelliher’s team.

Doug Kelliher joins The Lycra Company with an impressive career spanning over 30 years in product leadership. His extensive experience includes key roles at renowned companies such as Timberland, Velcro Companies, Polartec, and Milliken & Company. As Executive Vice President, Product, Kelliher will lead the company's product management team, focusing on developing and executing strategic initiatives across its diverse range of fibers, fabrics, and garments.

Gary Smith, CEO of The Lycra Company, commented on the strategic importance of these appointments. "As the apparel industry continues to evolve, our focus remains on delivering high-performance solutions that meet consumer needs and help brands and retailers differentiate and thrive," Smith stated. He further emphasized, "Doug and Robert bring exceptional leadership, vision, and industry expertise to their roles, strengthening our ability to co-create with customers, accelerate innovation, and bring transformative technologies to market faster and more efficiently.”

These key leadership enhancements build upon other strategic organizational moves made by The Lycra Company earlier this year, which included the promotion of Melissa Riggs to the role of Chief Marketing Officer.
