Mango Founder's Death Now Suspected Homicide with Son as Focus
Spanish authorities are currently investigating the death of Isak Andic, the esteemed founder of the global fashion brand Mango, as a suspected homicide. Andic, who was 71, died in December 2024, an event initially reported by the Spanish press as an accidental fall during a family hike in the mountains of north-east Catalonia. However, recent developments indicate a significant shift in the police's focus, now centering on his son, Jonathan Andic, as a potential suspect.
According to reports from El País, citing "several well-informed sources," police suspicion was ignited after Jonathan Andic, who was alone with his father at the time of the incident, provided an account that investigators found contradictory and unconvincing. The testimony reportedly contained "grey areas" and described events that could not be reconciled with the findings of the Catalan police, raising significant red flags for the investigation team.
Further fueling the suspicions, the testimony of Estefania Knuth, a professional golfer and Isak Andic's partner, reportedly highlighted "the poor relationship between father and son," as detailed by El País. This revelation about the family dynamics adds another layer to the complex investigation now underway. The Barcelona daily La Vanguardia, also citing "well-informed sources," confirms that Jonathan Andic's status transitioned from a witness to a suspect in September, and police are now meticulously analyzing the contents of his mobile phone as part of their evidence gathering.
In response to these serious allegations, the Andic family has issued a statement through a spokesperson, expressing their "confidence of a swift conclusion to these proceedings and of the demonstration of Jonathan Andic's innocence," according to El País. At this stage, the Catalan police have not been available for official confirmation regarding the details of the ongoing investigation.
Isak Andic's legacy extends far beyond the circumstances of his death. Born in Istanbul, he moved to Barcelona with his family at the age of 14. He went on to establish Mango, which grew into one of the world's largest fashion groups, boasting approximately 2,800 stores across the globe. The current investigation casts a shadow over the otherwise remarkable life of a prominent figure in the international fashion industry.
