Margaret Howell Joins Cotton Lives On To Boost Textile Recycling
Premium British fashion brand Margaret Howell has announced its participation in the expanding Cotton Lives On recycling programme, making a significant move to tackle textile waste within its operations. This collaboration marks another stride in the brand's long-standing commitment to sustainability, building on a five-decade legacy of championing local suppliers and designing and producing high-quality clothing "crafted to last a lifetime."
The newly introduced programme is specifically tailored for Margaret Howell, aiming to repurpose collected high-cotton-content garments from both production waste and old textiles. This initiative will be exclusively implemented at the brand's London Workroom, serving as a dedicated hub for material collection and processing. The goal is to efficiently give cotton a new life, aligning with the brand's ethos of responsible resource management.
A core objective of this partnership is to specifically reduce waste generated at Margaret Howell's UK production facility and head office. The programme will facilitate employee engagement through co-branded collection points, encouraging staff to actively contribute to the Cotton Lives On initiative. This internal focus ensures that sustainability practices are integrated into daily operations and supported by the entire team.
Sarah Coleman, Head of Development, Design and Sustainability at Margaret Howell, expressed enthusiasm for the new venture, stating: "The brand has always valued quality and longevity in the materials we use. With the Cotton Lives On recycling programme, we are pleased to be able to repurpose cotton waste from our own London Workroom shirtline, giving cotton a new life." Her comments underscore the brand's dedication to circularity and extending the lifespan of valuable materials.
Margaret Howell's inclusion in the Cotton Lives On programme places it among a growing collective of prominent UK fashion brands and retailers committed to textile recycling. This expanding network currently features well-known names such as Me+Em, Paige, Charles Tyrwhitt, Hush, Whistles, Hobbs, Phase Eight, L’Estrange, Bianca Saunders, Nexvision, and The White Company, collectively working towards a more sustainable fashion industry.
