Meta Unveils Minority Report Style Smart Glasses and Neural Band Elevating Wearable Tech

Meta has unveiled its latest collection of smart wearables, prominently featuring smart glasses equipped with integrated displays reminiscent of early Google Glass and gesture control inspired by "Minority Report." Presented by CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the recent Connect event, this launch strengthens Meta’s strategic collaboration with EssilorLuxottica and reinforces its competitive standing in the smart eyewear market against rivals like Samsung, Google, and Snapchat. The new lineup includes the innovative Meta Ray-Ban Display, the performance-oriented Oakley Meta Vanguard, and the enhanced second-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

At the heart of the new offerings is the Meta Ray-Ban Display, which boasts a high-resolution screen discreetly embedded in the upper-right lens, visible exclusively to the wearer. This feature allows users to seamlessly check messages, view maps, control music playback, capture photos or videos, access social media platforms, and interact with Meta’s AI assistant—all without the need to retrieve their smartphone from a pocket or bag.

A significant innovation accompanying the Meta Ray-Ban Display is the Meta Neural Band, a wristband that utilizes electromyography to interpret subtle hand muscle activity. This groundbreaking technology enables users to navigate smart glasses functions through intuitive, subtle hand gestures. The Neural Band promises up to 18 hours of battery life and comes complete with a charging case. It is slated for a U.S. launch on September 30, with a starting price of $799, and is expected to become available in international markets by 2026.

Another key revelation at the event was the Oakley Meta Vanguard, a model specifically engineered for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. These water-resistant smart glasses feature tinted lenses, a secure fit compatible with cycling helmets, and immersive audio delivered by five integrated microphones designed to minimize wind noise during calls, messages, or voice-command interactions with Meta AI. The device also supports high-resolution video recording, including slow-motion and hyperlapse modes, and offers seamless integration with popular fitness platforms such as Garmin and Strava, allowing users to access activity summaries via the Meta AI app. The Oakley Meta Vanguard offers up to nine hours of battery life, starts at $499, and will be available in Italy and other select markets.

Completing the comprehensive launch is the updated second-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, an evolution of the model initially introduced in September 2023. Now available in Italy for €419, this enhanced version features a more powerful battery, extending usage up to eight hours, and an upgraded ultra-wide 12-megapixel camera that delivers improved image quality. These releases collectively underscore Meta and EssilorLuxottica’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of fashion technology, expertly blending luxury eyewear aesthetics with advanced, next-generation wearable functionality.
