Milan Fashion Fairs Unveil Strategic Redesign to Prioritize Visitor Experience and Synergies

For several years, Milan's fashion trade fairs have been fostering synergies to address post-pandemic challenges within the sector. The collaboration is set to deepen significantly for the February 2026 edition through the "Reinventing Mipel & Micam" strategic project, developed in partnership with Lombardini22, a prominent architecture and engineering firm.

Lombardini22, described as a "collective-thinking company," utilized extensive consultation and analysis with major exhibitors to redefine the fair experience. According to Cristian Catania, Reinventing Fairs project director at Lombardini22, the core objective is to shift the paradigm: maintaining exhibitor visibility while prioritizing the visitor's needs. The aim is to create a more productive, seamless, and less fatiguing experience by building on the events' heritage, expanding services, and promoting cultural growth beyond just product showcases, transforming the exhibition into an engaging experience.

As part of this transformation, Mipel will undergo a complete reimagining for the February 2026 edition, which coincides with the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympic Games. The event will relocate to the front section of Hall 5 at Fiera Milano Rho, gaining greater centrality and visibility within the exhibition center. Lombardini22 will redesign the layout to create clearer, more immersive routes. New areas dedicated to product, creativity, and innovation will be introduced, and pre-built stands will be reinterpreted in a contemporary and functional manner to better meet exhibitor needs.

A central feature of the project is "M&M- The Hub," located in the middle of Hall 5. This new space will serve as an integration point for Micam and Mipel initiatives, offering visitors an integrated experience. The Hub will host the Micam Academy and Mipel Factory, providing an environment for continuous learning and relationship-building through education, research, technical experimentation, and professional development. The "Italian Startup" project, created in collaboration with ICE-Agenzia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), will also be featured, highlighting innovative, technology-driven emerging Italian companies. Additionally, a curated product area will offer a concise overview of key trends for the Autumn/Winter 2026–2027 season.

Claudia Sequi, president of Mipel and Assopellettieri, emphasized that the partnership with Lombardini22 is strategic for enhancing communication and supporting company growth and international exposure. She noted that trade fairs are crucial drivers for internationalization, helping to promote "Made in Italy" and strengthen global recognition of Italian leather goods companies for innovation, expertise, and excellence. Sequi stressed that moving Mipel to Hall 5 is more than just a relocation; it represents a strategic desire to rethink the fair's layout to provide usable, intuitive, and engaging spaces for buyers and exhibitors alike.

Giovanna Ceolini, president of Micam and Assocalzaturifici, highlighted the critical role of joining forces within the broader fashion ecosystem. While products remain important, she argued that "different visions are even more so." Ceolini pointed out that the February edition also brings together other complementary events, including Sì Sposa Italia Collezioni, Milano Fashion&Jewels, and The One Milano, providing buyers with a comprehensive overview of Made in Italy fashion segments (Lineapelle and Simac will return in September after the Olympics). She confirmed the effectiveness of this synergy, noting that the last edition attracted 40,000 visitors from 38 countries, and expressed confidence that the "Reinventing Mipel & Micam" project will further strengthen their collective ability to represent "Made in Italy" at its best.

For the upcoming February edition, Micam will also implement a new configuration for Halls 1 and 3. This adjustment, combined with existing Halls 2 and 4, aims to make the visitor journey more coherent, intuitive, and functional.
