Monravel French luxury brand launches with scent-infused botanical remedies.
The discerning world of French luxury has once again introduced a captivating new brand set to enchant senses and minds: Monravel. Conceived by a creative French duo, Constance and Marguerite Monravel, this novel marque delves into the profound olfactive universe of plants. At its core, Monravel explores how the intricate power of scents can evoke cherished memories and profound emotions, ultimately contributing to a holistic sense of well-being and improved mood. While this concept might initially sound ethereal, experiencing one of Monravel’s meticulously crafted fragrances makes its profound impact undeniably clear.
The brand's debut line features six exquisite scents, poised to launch commercially this weekend on the prestigious ground floor of Paris' toniest department store, Au Bon Marché. This significant launch is underpinned by a rich family legacy; a venerable 19th-century botanist named Louis de Monravel, an ancestor, left an indelible mark on the family's deep-rooted connection to nature. Copies of his original manuscripts, meticulously preserving gently pressed leaves, proudly adorn a display of the new candles in the founders' elegant 6th arrondissement apartment, a residence that predates the era of Louis XIV. Constance, a distinguished graduate of Bocconi and Harvard University with a stellar career in international hospitality, eloquently states their ambition: “We want to build a fragrance house inspired by the power of nature, and rooted in my ancestor’s botanical heritage.”
Complementing this historical foundation is Marguerite, a skilled pharmacist who finds joy and inspiration in cultivating her own garden in Brittany. Her expertise is evident in the brand's philosophy: “From my botanical journeys and study of herbal medicines and botany, I am convinced plants have a certain restorative power.” This conviction is imbued into each of Monravel’s debut offerings – a collection of six sophisticated all-black glass candles. Each candle bears a unique name and narrative, such as "Citrus Maxima," which beautifully riffs on the lush Mediterranean gardens of Cap Martin, or "Ode au Cyprès," designed to evoke the sun-drenched Etruscan cypress gardens. Every product is adorned with the compelling tagline, “Parfums et Remèdes,” meaning perfumes and remedies, subtly hinting at the inherent healing power of nature encapsulated within.
Further illustrating the breadth of their botanical inspirations, other candle names include "Sancta Myrrha," artfully formulated from myrrh to soothe the nerves, and "Eclat du Kerla," which plays on the harmonious principles of Ayurvedic rituals. Each of these beautifully designed candles, complete with a matching glass top, is priced at €95. Beyond the candle collection, Monravel’s initial offering also features a truly unique white chalk-rock set, priced at €70. This innovative product combines both a natural stone and a complementary scent, designed for gradual use over weeks, thereby imparting a hyper-lasting fragrance directly into the porous rock – a testament to the brand's commitment to enduring sensory experiences.
Looking ahead, the visionary duo has ambitious plans to expand their olfactive universe by creating a fully-fledged perfume for the body, signaling a natural evolution for the brand. For now, enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the Monravel experience starting October 15th, with purchases available online or, for those in Paris, directly at Au Bon Marché this very weekend. Once again, when it comes to the intersection of luxury, innovation, and timeless elegance, the French continue to demonstrate an unparalleled genius for introducing truly smart and captivating ideas to the world.
