Mountain Warehouse Upsizes at Caledonia Park Boosting Outdoor Retail Presence

Outdoor retailer Mountain Warehouse has significantly expanded its footprint at Caledonia Park, Scotland's premium designer outlet village, with the opening of a substantially upsized store. This strategic relocation and expansion mark a notable development for both the brand and the popular retail destination.

The newly unveiled Mountain Warehouse store now commands an impressive 6,276 sq ft of retail space, representing a substantial 70% increase in size compared to its previous iteration. Strategically positioned next to M&S, the larger premises allow the retailer to offer its full and comprehensive range of products, spanning everything from high-performance outerwear and specialist camping equipment to items from the Animal active lifestyle brand. This expanded offering is designed to create a wider, more immersive, and "outdoor-inspired shopping experience" for customers.

Sean Riley, Head of Acquisitions at Mountain Warehouse, expressed the brand's enthusiasm for the expansion, stating: “This upsize and opening was the natural next step for us at Caledonia Park as we continue to grow and connect with more customers.” This move underscores Mountain Warehouse's commitment to strategic growth and enhancing customer engagement within key retail environments.

The successful expansion is also a significant achievement for Caledonia Park's operator, Railpen, reflecting a continued commitment to one of the leading retailers within the centre. This development aligns with the destination’s strong performance throughout the current year, indicating a thriving retail landscape that attracts and retains prominent brands.

Caledonia Park's financial performance has been robust, with year-to-date sales showing an impressive 11% increase compared to 2024. This growth has been significantly bolstered by a raft of major brand renewals. Notably, the sportswear and outdoor sales categories have experienced an exceptional surge of 16% year-to-date against 2024 figures, highlighting the category's robust role as a powerhouse of growth and the sustained demand it generates from visitors across the region.

The strong performance of Caledonia Park has not only driven these significant brand renewals but has also attracted leading retailers to reaffirm their commitment to the location. Prestigious brands such as Superdry and Berghaus have reinforced their presence, while recent new openings include popular fashion retailers like Jack & Jones and French Connection, further diversifying the shopping experience.

Maria Averkina, Asset & Development Manager at Railpen, credited the destination's success to its customer-centric approach: “Our destination continues to excel because we understand our customers and consistently meet their needs. As a result, we’re achieving our strongest performance to date, reinforcing Caledonia Park as the premium designer outlet village in Scotland.” This statement underscores Caledonia Park's strategic focus on customer satisfaction as a key driver of its leading position in the Scottish retail market.
