M&S Autograph Launches Performance Menswear Collection Redefining Modern Style

M&S Autograph Launches Performance Menswear Collection Redefining Modern Style

Marks & Spencer has demonstrated a strong performance in its clothing division over the past couple of years, a successful trajectory it aims to extend with the introduction of a new menswear collection under its premium sub-brand, Autograph. This latest offering, dubbed Autograph Performance, is designed to integrate advanced innovations into a single, performance-driven edit tailored for contemporary lifestyles, encompassing work, travel, and leisure.

The core of the Autograph Performance collection lies in its utilisation of cutting-edge materials and technologies. Each garment incorporates "advanced fabrics" such as Tech Wool and 360 Flex technology, ensuring both comfort and durability. Key features include four-way stretch tailoring and crease-recovery suiting, making pieces ideal for individuals on the go, as they can be packed and worn immediately after a commute or a gym session. Additionally, water-resistant materials provide essential protection against the elements.

A standout piece within this innovative collection is the Performance Packable Suit. M&S highlights its relevance in today’s evolving work landscape, noting that 86% of UK workers now engage in hybrid or fully remote roles, meaning approximately 15 million men commute at least part-time. This suit has been specifically engineered to address the dynamic needs of the modern workforce. Crafted from an innovation-led wool-blend, it boasts shower-resistant, machine-washable, and naturally crease-resistant properties, all offered at a "market-leading" price point of £129 for the jacket and £70 for the trousers.

Beyond the signature suit, the entire collection benefits from a host of advanced innovations aimed at enhancing comfort and adaptability. These include moisture-wicking and quick-dry chinos, elasticated waist joggers and shirts, polos, and tees featuring added stretch and an antibacterial finish. The range also features bi-stretch trousers, extra fine merino wool jumpers made with naturally breathable yarn, and footwear equipped with Smart Step Technology soles, which integrate high-density, shock-absorbing foam for superior comfort.

This launch strategically builds upon the significant growth of Autograph Menswear, which has quadrupled in value over the last three years and now contributes nearly a quarter of M&S’s total menswear sales. The collection also aligns with M&S’s broader objective to "broaden appeal to the 35-54 age group and strengthen the brand’s relevance as a destination for men’s fashion." The brand's robust figures clearly underscore this strategic focus and investment.

Autograph has proven instrumental in attracting new customers to M&S. In the last fiscal year (FY25), 52% of Autograph customers were new to the sub-brand itself, with an additional 5% being entirely new to M&S. Furthermore, 55% of all Autograph customers are under the age of 45, a notable contrast to the 37% demographic seen across M&S’s total menswear customer base, indicating its success in reaching a younger audience.

This latest collection follows closely on the heels of the August debut of M&S Man, a dedicated Instagram channel exclusively focused on men’s style, further solidifying M&S’s commitment to expanding and modernising its menswear presence.
