M&S Goes Live: Festive Shopping Streamlined with Influencer Power
Livestream shopping has seen a significant surge in popularity this year, a trend powerfully underscored by specialist platforms like Whatnot, which recently reported impressive sales growth during the Black Friday period. Recognizing this burgeoning retail channel, UK giant M&S is now making its own foray into live commerce, aiming to simplify the festive season for its customers.
M&S has launched a dedicated "Live Shopping event," designed to offer shoppers a convenient "front-row seat to the very best of Christmas at M&S." Broadcasting directly from its in-house studios via its Facebook page and Instagram feed, the event showcases a curated selection of products. From show-stopping party outfits and elegant tablescapes to thoughtfully chosen gifts, the initiative positions itself as an all-in-one resource, akin to having a personal party planner, fashion stylist, and shopper at one's fingertips.
The event, which commenced on Monday and spans five days, is a collaborative effort featuring some of the UK’s most beloved influencers. These experts are on hand to provide valuable tips, explore trending ideas, and offer insider inspiration across key categories including fashion, beauty, gifting, and home hosting. This emphasis on engaging content and expert guidance is crucial, as successful live shopping experiences are as much about entertainment and interaction as they are about the transaction itself.
M&S is also keenly aware of varying consumer spending habits this season. Their research indicates that 40% of shoppers plan to maintain last year's spending levels, 20% intend to spend more, and another 20% are tightening their budgets. In response, the Live Shopping experience is structured to cater to a diverse range of price points, combining seamless social-first streaming with handpicked offers that promise real value and options for every financial plan.
The daily schedule is packed with themed content and expert hosts. Monday’s focus was dedicated to kids’ products. Tuesday shifted to Beauty & Home, featuring Sarah Jossel and Katherine Ormerod. Wednesday is slated for "Gifting & Hosting 101" with Laura Jackson, while Thursday will present "must-have styles for men + something for everyone" hosted by Vernon Kay and Kris Donnelly. The event will conclude on Friday with a "now trending" theme, guided by Nana Acheampong and Pip Hodgson.
