Munich Fabric Start Delivers Positive Outlook for Textile Industry Amidst Market Challenges

Munich Fabric Start recently concluded its compact 56th edition with a resoundingly positive outcome, solidifying its position as a pivotal gathering for the textile industry. Held from September 2nd to 3rd at the MOC Munich, the event successfully united approximately 600 international exhibitors who presented an extensive array of 1,200 collections for the Fall/Winter 2026/27 season. This strong showing underscored the fair's enduring relevance and its ability to foster vital connections within a dynamic market.

A key factor contributing to this success was the innovative "show-in-show" concept, which integrated several distinct formats under one roof at the MOC Munich. This included the international denim trade fair Bluezone, the cutting-edge innovation hub Keyhouse, the core trade fair itself, and The Source. This strategic co-location proved highly effective, enhancing visitor experience and facilitating cross-segment networking. The comprehensive supporting program, designed to inspire and inform, also garnered significant praise from visiting professionals, further enriching the overall event experience.

Florian Klinder, the exhibition director, expressed profound satisfaction with the results. "We can draw a positive conclusion: the closer integration of our trade fair formats has had the desired effect," Klinder stated. He emphasized how the show-in-show concept effectively fosters the networking of diverse market segments, allowing Munich Fabric Start to emerge as a central hub for the textile industry. Klinder also highlighted the critical role of inspiration-driven formats such as Keyhouse and Sustainable Innovations, noting their increased importance "in these times." He further added, "In conjunction with our comprehensive portfolio of international manufacturers from all fashion segments, the mood was positive despite the current market environment. This means the trade fair sends out an important signal."

Exhibitors echoed this optimistic sentiment, reporting productive engagements and promising new leads. Simon Leppich, managing director of Nilörn Germany, observed, "The current trade fair is going well—better than in January, in my opinion. The market situation is tense, so it's all the more important that the mood at the fair is good. Everyone we expected was there, including Alberto, Armedangels, Drykorn and Oui, for example." Aylin Aksu, sales agent at Ecopel, also shared positive feedback, noting, "The trade fair has gone really well so far. Many of our existing customers came, and many new customers also showed interest in our fake furs. It's helpful that fake fur is such a significant topic at the moment. We’re now presenting furs that are 100% bio-based. That’s going over well."

The positive experience extended to visitors and buyers as well. Adrian Runhof, artistic and managing director of Talbot Runhof, praised the event, saying, "We always find what we're looking for—plus lots of new things. As always, Munich Fabric Start is well organized. The sample area is very inspiring. We're searching for new textures and fabrics that complement our range. Conclusion: very nice! Everything was top-notch." Such testimonials underscore the fair's ability to consistently deliver value, inspiration, and crucial sourcing opportunities for fashion professionals.

Building on the success of this edition, the textile community can look forward to upcoming events in Munich. The next View event is scheduled for December 2nd and 3rd, followed by the next full Munich Fabric Start from January 27th to 29th, promising more opportunities for innovation, networking, and business development.
