Our Legacy Opens Cult Concept Work Shop in Historic London Stable
Stockholm-based fashion house Our Legacy has marked a significant milestone with the grand opening of a new Work Shop in London’s vibrant Soho district. Situated at 6 Smiths’ Court, this latest venture is particularly noteworthy as it represents only the second standalone Work Shop store globally, the other being its flagship in Stockholm. The new London location is conveniently positioned just a short distance from Our Legacy's existing main brand address on Silver Place, further solidifying its presence in the British capital. This expansion follows closely on the heels of the brand boosting its international footprint last month with two permanent concessions for men and women at Printemps Haussmann in France.
The establishment of the London Work Shop not only celebrates Our Legacy's decade-long presence in the city but also anticipates the Work Shop concept's own 10-year anniversary in 2026. Over the years, the company asserts that the Work Shop concept has "evolved into a cult phenomenon," distinguished by its impressive roster of collaborations. These partnerships span a diverse range of brands, including international giants like Stüssy, Converse, and Emporio Armani, as well as fellow Scandinavian design powerhouses such as Artek, Magniberg, and Rörstrand.
Functioning as a "creative engine within Our Legacy," the Work Shop label operates fundamentally as a circular retail platform, a collaborative vessel, and an atelier. Built upon these core principles, the new London store seamlessly blends historical elements and fine craftsmanship with an experimental approach. It is envisioned as an ever-evolving space where in-house artisans actively upcycle, recycle, and handcraft pieces directly in-store, transforming deadstock fabrics and samples into distinctive, one-of-a-kind garments, embodying a commitment to sustainability and unique design.
Beyond its innovative in-store production, the Smiths’ Court location also stocks an curated selection of archival and reference garments, offering a deeper insight into the brand’s history and influences. These pieces are presented alongside the latest exclusive Work Shop drops, ensuring a dynamic and continually refreshed product offering for discerning customers.
The building itself, a historic late 18th-century structure in Smiths’ Court, adds another layer of character to the Work Shop. Transformed from its origins as a horse stable and later a hub for blacksmiths, cabinet makers, and leatherworkers, the space now marries its rich past with contemporary design. The interior, conceived in collaboration with architects Arrhov Frick and developed by Profan, meticulously preserves the building’s inherent charm through features like arched ceilings, exposed beams, and original cast-iron pillars. This historical integrity is subtly contrasted with a modern aesthetic achieved through the integration of stainless steel furniture, versatile movable fixtures, and a palette of natural materials.
Adding a final touch of refined elegance to the industrial setting, long-time brand collaborator Akane Moriyama has contributed custom-designed silk curtains. These installations introduce a contrasting softness and textural richness, perfectly complementing the rugged character of the refurbished historic space and enhancing the overall ambiance of the new Our Legacy Work Shop in London.
