Paris Department Stores Ignite Festive Spirit with Dazzling Christmas 2025 Window Displays

The highly anticipated race for the most enchanting Christmas windows has officially begun in Paris, as the city's iconic department stores unveil their distinctive 2025 festive displays. Each establishment presents a unique vision, transforming the capital into a sparkling wonderland with creative themes, immersive experiences, and delectable treats designed to captivate visitors of all ages.

Founded in 1870, La Samaritaine continues its legacy as a beacon of Parisian elegance and Art Nouveau. Since its grand reopening in 2021, the department store has established itself as a vibrant hub of creativity, seamlessly blending its rich heritage with innovative, immersive experiences. For Christmas 2025, La Samaritaine fully embraces the festive spirit with "Paris M’Emballe," a theme centered entirely around the ribbon—the universal symbol of gift-giving. This unpredictable, undulating, and luminous motif gracefully weaves its way through every corner of the store.

The festive season at La Samaritaine is inaugurated with personalized pop-ups from Moncler and Celine, while the beauty universe on Level -1 offers its own share of surprises, featuring scented spaces and brand-new installations. A notable addition for 2025 is the opening of a Packaging Studio, created in collaboration with Impression Originale, where visitors can master the art of gift wrapping using exquisite papers, bespoke ribbons, and calligraphy techniques, with eco-conscious options provided by Nona Source, a supplier of upcycled fabrics from haute couture houses. The beloved Giant Advent Calendar also makes a return from December 1 to 24, revealing a new fashion, beauty, or jewellery surprise daily under the stunning glass roof; participation simply requires scanning a receipt near the Conciergerie.

The artistic journey at La Samaritaine extends with installations by visual artist Elsa Tomkowiak, celebrated for her explorations of colour. She reimagines the ribbon theme through an immersive, vibrant, and saturated installation, conceived as a vivid celebration of the Christmas spirit across several areas of the store. Concluding the sensory delights, pastry chef Nina Métayer takes up residence, unveiling "Destination," a delectable collection for the festive season that offers a sensory journey where emotions and flavours beautifully echo one another, featuring chocolates, travel cakes, and other signature sweet creations.

Printemps Haussmann, a pioneering department store since its establishment in 1865, remains one of the most visited destinations for its Christmas windows each year. In 2025, the store adopts a bold and exciting theme: "Christmas in New York," a celebratory nod to the upcoming opening of its first American address in March at One Wall Street in the heart of Manhattan. To commemorate this significant milestone, Printemps has crafted a joyful, high-energy transatlantic journey inspired by the city that never sleeps.

This year’s windows at Printemps feature mischievous dogs leading visitors from scene to scene. Sketched in black and white, reminiscent of a New Yorker cartoon, these handcrafted fabric and cardboard figures bring to life 125 animated characters—the culmination of a year's work and thousands of hours of meticulous sewing and assembly. Each dog is adorned with a unique New York-inspired accessory, from an ice-skating tutu and a mini hot dog to an oversized scarf or a chic shopping tote. The vibrant New York theme seamlessly continues inside the store.

On the rooftop, the Patinoire du 7e Ciel, created in partnership with Ferrero Rocher, provides a magical ice-skating experience that beautifully blends Parisian and Manhattan vistas, offering breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower alongside décor inspired by Rockefeller Center. At the Bleu Coupole restaurant, chef Xavier Pistol stages a delicious duel between New York and Paris with two special Christmas burgers. Pastry chef Bryan Esposito channels the spirit of the Big Apple with a delightful collection of petits choux decorated with iconic New York symbols, and a Candy Cake Yule log inspired by the famous candy cane, featuring a harmonious blend of lime cheesecake, spiced biscuit, and cranberry marmalade. Printemps offers a bright, accessible transatlantic Christmas this year, expertly blending humour, craftsmanship, cultural references, and festive colours to celebrate both its American expansion and the enduring magic of the season in Paris.

This year, Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann invites visitors into a poetic Christmas workshop, an imaginary atelier where diligent elves bustle around Father Christmas, meticulously preparing thousands of gifts. This whimsical universe was conceived by acclaimed illustrator Jeanne Detallante, known for her collaborations with prestigious fashion houses such as Prada, Miu Miu, and Carven. The window displays transport visitors into a fairytale world, showcasing elves diligently crafting presents for the big night.

Under the store's magnificent Coupole, the towering Christmas tree commands attention, standing at an impressive 16 meters tall. Adorned with eight kilometers of garlands and swathed in hundreds of kilograms of ribbons and fabric, it too has been artfully dressed by Jeanne Detallante. Resembling an enormous, beautifully wrapped gift ready to be unveiled, the tree truly becomes the beating heart of the store. The rooftop also features the return of the ice rink, available from December 1 to January 4, allowing visitors to skate against the breathtaking backdrop of the Eiffel Tower and the Parisian rooftops, offering one of the capital’s finest views amidst the year-end illuminations.

For younger visitors, Galeries Lafayette has partnered with Lunii, the popular audiobook brand. By scanning a QR code in the window displays, children can listen to an exclusive story created specifically for the holidays, following Suzanne and Gaston on a magical adventure inside the store. A Lunii pop-up is also installed in the Children’s area until December 24. Throughout the floors, several gourmet and creative spaces await: under the Coupole, Cyril Lignac opens an Oursons Guimauve bar where guests can customize their own boxes; La Romaine Éditions offers a curated selection of tableware and decorative objects for the festive table; Scottish cashmere house Barrie showcases its savoir-faire with a pop-up; and Lenôtre unveils an exclusive "Bûche Haussmann" Yule log, inspired by its "Train des merveilles" collection, imagined by Guy Krenzer and World Pastry Champion chef Étienne Leroy.

For its 2025 Christmas edition, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche offers a poetic reimagining of the traditional Alsatian markets. From October 25 to December 31, the entire department store is transformed into a veritable winter village, complete with charming wooden chalets, strings of twinkling lights, natural materials, and a delightful snowy atmosphere. The famous central escalator even becomes a cozy hamlet, while gilded cobbles, wooden façades, and apron-clad vendors heighten the illusion of a reinvented traditional market experience.

Unveiled on November 7, the windows on Rue de Sèvres showcase approximately one hundred animated rabbits diligently at work in various workshops. Some windows are thoughtfully raised to ensure children can fully enjoy the enchanting spectacle. Even the store's bags, wrapping paper, and pouches adopt market-inspired codes, featuring intricate woven-wicker motifs or a festive "gazette" look. Inside, an abundance of gift ideas can be found on every floor, and until December 24, the second floor becomes the ultimate destination for decorating your Christmas tree. This year, Le Bon Marché proudly unveils its own collection of hand-blown and hand-painted glass baubles, with one line dedicated to the department store itself and another inspired by La Grande Épicerie. The festive selection is thoughtfully structured around four distinct universes: the majestic mountains, the magic of Christmas night, Father Christmas’s bustling workshop, and finally, the playful and pop-art inspired mini-market.
