Penhaligon's Reopens Regent Street Flagship: A Luxurious Fusion of Heritage and Future
Penhaligon's, the esteemed British heritage fragrance brand, has proudly announced the grand reopening of its flagship store on London's iconic Regent Street. Following a "significant refurbishment," the revitalised boutique is heralded as a celebration of scent, rich heritage, and unparalleled craftsmanship, marking a pivotal moment in the brand's storied history.
Described as a "lavish and visionary refurbishment," this extensive overhaul ushers in "a bold new chapter" for the 155-year-old company. The brand's philosophy for this redesign is clear: "looking toward the future but never forgetting the past." To achieve this ambitious vision, Penhaligon's collaborated with the acclaimed interior architecture firm Michaelis Boyd, renowned for their distinctive work on projects like Battersea Power Station and Soho Farmhouse. The result is a revitalised boutique that Penhaligon's proudly declares "stands as the most luxurious expression of the brand to date."
A cornerstone of the refurbishment is the striking and pervasive use of William’s Green, Penhaligon’s newly registered Pantone brand colour. This deep, sophisticated hue is thoughtfully integrated throughout the boutique, appearing in the luxurious marbles, fine woods, and exquisite textiles. William’s Green is intended to "evoke timelessness and sophistication," establishing itself as a defining hallmark of the brand's evolving aesthetic. Complementing this rich colour palette, the lighting design by Joe Armitage envelops the space in a "warm glow," masterfully enhancing the richness of the materials and highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship evident in every detail.
The reimagined space is further elevated by an array of bespoke furniture and unique artworks, each piece contributing to the boutique’s narrative and luxurious atmosphere. Among the most captivating features is a "show-stopping bronze lion-shaped fragrance profiling table," crafted by the talented sculptor Hamish Mackie. This majestic piece not only serves a functional purpose but also "embodies both majesty and scent storytelling." Additionally, a hand-painted mural by artist Claire Basler beautifully "captures the essence of the English countryside," while a custom-made chess board, designed by Carl Fox and Sofia Karakatsanis, "pays homage to Penhaligon’s Portraits collection and brings storytelling to life," inviting engagement and appreciation for the brand’s intricate narratives.
Penhaligon's affirms that the renewed boutique is "far more than just a retail space – it serves as a stage for both the brand’s heritage and its future." This refurbishment embodies a holistic "celebration of Penhaligon’s identity and direction," achieved through a thoughtful blend of vintage objects with contemporary design elements. The harmonious fusion of old and new underscores the brand's respect for its rich past while confidently embracing innovation and forward-thinking design.
To commemorate this significant reopening, Penhaligon’s has partnered with the acclaimed artist Maggi Hambling for an exclusive collaboration. Hambling has designed 155 bespoke bottles of the brand's key fragrance, Endymion Concentré, making them highly coveted collector’s items. These limited-edition bottles, retailing for £500/$650/AED2,500, will be exclusively available at the Regent Street flagship, as well as the New York and Dubai Mall boutiques. Each of the 155 Endymion Concentré bottles is individually numbered, intricately engraved, and adorned with a bespoke indigo ribbon personally created by Hambling. Presented in a specially designed case, each exquisite bottle is also accompanied by a signed print from one of the artist's distinctive ink drawings, making it a truly unique acquisition for fragrance connoisseurs and art collectors alike.
