Performance Days Munich to Unveil Textile's Circular Future October 29-30
The Performance Days trade show is gearing up for its Autumn 2027/28 edition, set to open its doors on October 29 and 30 in Munich. With all halls fully booked, a roster of high-calibre exhibitors, and an exceptionally diverse supporting programme, the organisers are poised to reassert the B2B format's standing as the preeminent trade fair for performance fabrics and sustainable textile innovations. This upcoming event promises a deep dive into the future of textiles, spotlighting cutting-edge materials and responsible manufacturing practices.
Trade visitors can anticipate a highly engaging and varied programme tailored to provide maximum insight and networking opportunities. Key attractions include presentations from top-tier exhibitors, the unveiling of new dedicated areas, inspiring trend forums that forecast industry directions, and an expanded footwear area reflecting the growing demand for specialised materials. A significant highlight is the Innovation Hub by FFE, a collaborative effort developed in partnership with the esteemed Future Fabrics Expo, designed to showcase groundbreaking textile advancements.
A crucial new addition to this edition is "Day 0," a dedicated conference format focused on the critical issue of waste in the textile industry. This thought-provoking event will commence on Tuesday, October 28, a day before the main fair opens. Operating under the powerful motto, "In nature, there is no waste," the discussions will centre on practical approaches to the circular economy, efficient resource utilisation, and fresh perspectives on transforming textile waste. The day is structured to be highly interactive, featuring workshops, engaging group discussions, and practical case studies that illustrate how perceived "waste" can be converted into valuable resources. Experts like Alexandra Wittwer from BSI, Manuel Schweizer of OceanSafe, and Moritz Schnäpsmeier from Sitex will lead these sessions, with Bowie Miles and Charles Ross hosting the day, providing diverse impetus and inspiration.
The October edition also places one of the industry's most defining future issues at centre stage with its new Focus Topic: "Textile to Textile – The Role of Recyclers." This theme directly addresses the obsolescence of the linear "take-make-dispose" model, highlighting the urgent shift towards circularity. With legal requirements such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR) making the circular economy mandatory, the spotlight is firmly on recyclers. These innovators play an indispensable role in developing the advanced technologies necessary to reintegrate textile fibres back into the production cycle, thereby closing the loop and reducing environmental impact.
Fair director Marco Weichert expressed his strong optimism for the upcoming event, stating, "The Performance Days are more than just a trade fair – they are a meeting place for innovation, sustainability, and inspiration. With our new Focus Topic, the Creative Area, and the Innovation Hub, we offer our visitors unparalleled insights into the future of the textile industry." He further emphasised, "We are delighted that, together with international partners such as the Future Fabrics Expo and our long-standing exhibitors, we are once again putting together a programme that truly moves the entire industry forward." This sentiment underscores the event's commitment to fostering collaboration and driving progress across the textile value chain.
Continuing its commitment to showcasing sustainable materials, the natural fibre wool will be a significant focal point for the third consecutive time. A dedicated Wool Area, complemented by a specialised Wool Forum, will highlight the remarkable versatility, performance attributes, and inherent sustainability of this timeless material. This focus aims to educate visitors on wool's potential in modern performance applications and its role in a more circular textile economy.
