Pierpaolo Piccioli's Balenciaga debut campaign unveils effortless beauty and a modern feminine vision.
Balenciaga has officially embarked on a new chapter, unveiling its inaugural campaign under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli. This highly anticipated launch, following Piccioli’s runway debut earlier this month, signifies a profound shift for the esteemed French fashion house, setting a fresh tone for its future collections and brand identity.
The campaign, brought to life through a series of evocative still and moving portraits, is the result of a collaboration with renowned photographer and longtime Piccioli ally, David Sims. Piccioli shared his vision for this introductory campaign, stating, “For my first campaign for the house, I wanted to create something that felt truly personal and could tell a story of effortless beauty and delicate humanity.” He further emphasized the special nature of working with Sims, highlighting their shared goal to capture models Mona Tougaard and Sandra Murray authentically — “spontaneous, real, soft, yet strong — a reflection of the new Balenciaga woman and the beginning of a chapter that feels deeply meaningful to me.”
Set within the opulent Hôtel de Maisons–Pozzo di Borgo in Paris, the visuals immerse viewers in moments of quiet intimacy and understated grace. Models Mona Tougaard and Sandra Murray are depicted in states of serene ease, lounging across sunlit beds, embodying a candid vulnerability and inherent strength. This setting perfectly complements Piccioli’s aesthetic, creating an atmosphere that feels both grand and deeply personal, inviting contemplation on modern femininity.
Piccioli’s designs for Balenciaga, showcased within this campaign, reveal a masterful reinterpretation of the house’s iconic codes. The garments strike a compelling balance, appearing fluid yet architectural, intimate yet imposing. They introduce a renewed sense of femininity that is both decidedly modern and eminently wearable, articulating a sophisticated blend of strength, sensitivity, and self-possession. This collection marks a conscious evolution, respecting Balenciaga’s heritage while propelling it forward into a contemporary context.
Anchoring the visual narrative are two significant accessories: the Rodeo and Le City bags. These pieces serve as powerful symbols of Balenciaga’s enduring dialogue between utility and allure. The Rodeo bag, with its distinctive design, expresses a spirit of urban ease and individuality, speaking to the dynamic rhythm of modern life. Meanwhile, Le City bag remains a timeless expression of artisanal craft and confident attitude. Together, these iconic bags bridge Balenciaga’s past innovations with Pierpaolo Piccioli’s renewed vision, characterized by an emphasis on intimacy and purposeful design.
