Puma India Appoints Ramprasad Sridharan as New Managing Director

Puma, the global sportswear giant, has announced a significant leadership change for its Indian operations. Effective December of this year, Ramprasad Sridharan will assume the role of Managing Director for Puma India, a strategic move aimed at bolstering the brand's presence and growth in one of its key markets.

In his new capacity, Sridharan will report directly to Matthias Bäumer, Puma's Chief Commercial Officer, signifying the importance of the Indian market within the company's global structure. Sridharan brings an impressive 25 years of experience to the table, with a strong background in brand building across the Asia Pacific region, encompassing vital areas such as digital growth and commercial strategy.

Matthias Bäumer expressed strong confidence in Sridharan's capabilities, stating, “Ram is a highly experienced leader with a strong track record in the fashion and footwear industry. He brings deep retail expertise to Puma that will strengthen our operations and support India as one of our key markets. I am confident that his strong background will help accelerate Puma India’s growth and play a crucial role in turning our global strategic priorities into regional success.” This endorsement underscores Puma's strategic vision for India and Sridharan's anticipated impact.

Prior to joining Puma, Sridharan held the position of CEO and Managing Director at United Colors of Benetton India, where he demonstrated his leadership prowess. His extensive career also includes various senior leadership roles at other prominent companies within the fashion and footwear sector, such as Reebok India and Clarks, further solidifying his credentials in the industry.

Sridharan steps into the role previously held by Karthik Balagopalan, who has made the decision to explore new opportunities outside of Puma. Bäumer also extended his gratitude to the outgoing leader, remarking, “I want to also thank Karthik for his two decades with Puma and wish him the best for his future,” acknowledging Balagopalan's significant contributions during his long tenure with the company.
